Default Tale of the Week 8 - The Vote

Read the stories here.

I'm impressed and entertained by everyone's performance, and gave you my rep cookies.

We've reached a record number of tales: 9!

The poll lists the entries upside down, so you have to think twice before you vote.

Vote, but most of all discuss the stories.

answering some questions from the submissions thread:
- about the spoiler button: if you go advanced in the edit post view, it's the trefoil sign button on the right
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

- about raising the word limit: at first it started with 300-600 words limit, but was reduced to 200-300 words, because people tend to skip longer texts on the internet

Hm, is it possible to advertise more for this TotW thing? Simply because then the voting process would make a lot more sense, the way it is now we have only ~10-15 (max.) people voting in total.

Also, the amazing stories seem to be read by only a select few people. Obviously, not everyone wants to read these tales, but I personally had never even heard of this up until this one and I bet there are others who think the same way.

More publicity => more voting => more appreciation for writing these => more people will want to write => more competition => more quality

Same here as this was my first go at this. I don't think I can make a full story since the images are so diffrent but it can just be a standalone like those game where you never find out abotu certain stuff and tis disscussed on forurms years later.

Forlornhop, you used powerful phrases in your story, and described a to-the-core action vividly. You should double-check the spelling too as typos can be somewhat annoying (now corrected), use the check spelling button (advanced view, third button on the top row of the toolbar).

Well, I think your story was a nice start, considering it is your first one and English isn't even your first language

It was a nice idea to have an internal monologue from Marcus' point of view. The grammar was sometimes slightly messed up but it weren't big errors in my opinion. Aside from that, maybe the last sentence was a bit "random", would have been better if you had eleborated further on why it was bad leadership etc. Finally, pretty graphic and bloody description! But hey, so is mine and such is war

Hope I could help.

Everyone voted for himself so far... (except me )

@Soldier of God: I liked your story, however it was a bit short to me, only 169 words, which means btw you're under the word limit.
It's inevitable to double-check the spelling, as typos can be somewhat distracting.

You portrayed the brutality of the action well in my opinion.

I think these short flicks (due to the word limit restriction) need either a humourous (like Juvenal's) or a tragical twist (like yaelthecruel's) to the picture. Or a strange point of view. I have thought of a story, where Jumbo tells how he sees the battle from the inside... but I had too much things to do last week, had to pass on this.

Anyway, welcome to ToTW and keep on submitting your stories, remember, nobody won with his first entry (except for me, but that poll was corrupted ).

And please don't rep me, go on and rep MarcelP for this phenomenal picture.

It was a nice twist too, the battle as seen through the eyes of Gods.

You had a nice touch to this point of view, by reporting the battle in bird's eye view, almost detached to the brutality of the bloodshed.

As blood was spraying over the fields like a beautiful fountain, the cruel lords of heaven were screaming with laughter.
You could hear the young skulls being crushed, the painful screams of the dying.
Young men, barely arrived in the world, screaming for fathers and mothers, wives and children.
Without mercy, the old beast was mowing through the rows, like a scythe through the ripe grain.
Like a knife through butter, crushing man-made armor, destroying god-made bone.

Maybe an little "gift" might help me decide...
j/k.

Seriously, I think this week there are less voters than participants. We definitely should advertise this forum a little more...
