Default Rome does not recognize the 1.3 patch?

Hey, I just installed Rome Total War and I'm trying to get it patched up to 1.5 so I can play a mod. I downloaded both 1.3 and 1.5 from several different sources, reinstalled Rome many a time and I still cannot get it to work. When I install 1.3 I go into the game and it in fact says v1.3. However, when I go to install 1.5 it says I must first install patch 1.3. I have no idea what to do.

What version of the game did you install in the first place? Where did you get the game from - is it an original CD-ROM or DVD-ROM or is it a download?

Did you previously have RTW installed on that PC?

I installed v.1.0--- It's the original 3 Cds, I've had them since the game first come out. Yes, I have had Rome on this computer before, but never patched.

First of all, ignore jakobh94's post. I don't know why they posted that as it does not appear to relate to your problem.

I presume that if it's already 1.3 and the 1.5 patch claims that the game is not 1.3 then there may be something messed up in the Windows Registry.

I've never messed around with the Windows Registry. If you do - always make a backup of the Registry before you make any changes.

In the following post (the first one) under the heading "How can I install the official version 1.2 patch manually?" there is a section on how to change the version number in the Windows Registry - that may be of use for you to check what version Windows thinks you have.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60685

After that section there is a link to another web site that has some information on how to remove the game from the Windows Registry completely - there is no need to do this (yet) but there may be something in there that helps you with changing the version.

The other thing that I can think of is : Have you changed the folder that the game was installed to at all? The patches look for the default folder (I seem to recall) and if you've changed that it may mess up the patch.

Also, I presume that you are using Windows XP? I doubt that Vista will cause this problem - I've managed to install RTW and patch it on my Vista desktop.

Hey guys! I had the same problem when reinstalling the patches in preperation for RSII.

Basically, for the 1.3 patch setup, it has 3 options. To 'modify', 'repair' or 'remove'. I was always clicking on modify, and I thought that it istalled the patch, so I went to install 1.5 and it came up with the error. However, I tried installing 1.3 again using the 'repair' option, and it worked.

    Hope this helps
