I was playing venice and was able to stay allied with the HRE for 103 turns... i didnt think it was possible. They controlled a ton of europe and thier priorites was war.. Well this may be the down fall ofg this campagin, cause i think they could be stronger then me =(

I think there will be two scenarios for this situation>both are nightmare

1_HRE back stab you,

2_ or ally with your enemy((then peace ))

HRE keeps allying with your enemy until your old enemy attacks you again

the long alliance between you and hre will be broken

then try to survive

well lol it wasnt the down fall actaully i just took veinne and innsbrook and won the game , wasnt paying attention to my terroties! But ya out of all my gsame s i never stayed allied more then 30 turns, but it was pretty epic scottland was putting up a good fight against the HRE!

im playing ireland and have been allied and military accessed to england for over 300 turns (didn't win, continued playing, going more RP this game)

na i wasnt gonna play it out id end up winning aginst them, i have innsbruke and all the italin cities so besides mass miltia i have the top citadel troops also so they woukld fall after a while and scottland was also tearing them apart .

As a general rule of thumb, I always tend to assume that the AI only "honors" an alliance with me for so long as it is, exclusively, in the AI's favor to be allied. Therefore, if they are keeping an alliance, I wander what it is they're up to.

When it comes to the AI and diplomacy, paranoid means your just paying attention.

Its certainly is possible to keep alliances specially if -:

They are busy expanding elsewhere. The AI will avoid multiple enemies at almost any cost.

Your global reputation is Very Reliable or better and you have good relations with them. To continue your alliance and perhaps discourage treachery keep your border towns well garrisoned. Also do not box them in. If they have nowhere left to expand they will probably betray you.
