Icon5 Rebel archer militia - superpowers?

I am playing a vanilla Crusades Byzantium campaign, H/H. I was sieging Limmasol, which was held by a rebel force since the elimination of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

I used 3 units of Varigian guards to attack the outer walls of the Citadel. I had no siege engines so I wanted to wear down the infantry units with my own. I got my Varigian Guard units on the wall via towers and ladders. The enemy defended the outer wall with everything, spear militia and archer militia units. Varigian Guards have a clear advantage, and began hacking their way through the defenders. Even so, they were outnumbered 2-1, so it was going to take some time. I got up, made some coffee, took a shower and returned some 20 mins later to find the combat still in progress, the Guard units had consolidated their foothold and were eliminating the rebel defenders. I waited for awhile and eventually my forces cleared the gatehouse, but the remnants of an archer militia unit still held the area around one of the towers. This fight seemed to go on for quite some time. I zoomed in closer to find a single archer militia fighting the exhausted Guard units on the wall. I figured "Any moment now", but this guy just wouldnt go down. In fact, I sat there and watched him fight for another good 20 mins. He seemed invincible. He wasnt causing any casulties, and the Guards were busy swinging their two-handed axes, but he didnt die. After another unbeleivable 20 minutes or so I finnally moved my Guard units down off the wall, and he finally was upended and killed via a large axe.

Is this a bug? I dont recall seeing anything about archer militia units in the list.

Neither is this the dawn from the east, nor is a dragon flying above, nor are the gables of this hall aflame. Nay, mortal enemies approach in ready armour. Ravens are calling, wolves are howling, spear clashes and shield answers

It sounds like a bug with animation. I have seen stuff like that happen a few times on walls. Basically they are considered in combat and they are making their attack animations but neither sides actually hit each other (or their hit does not register for some reason). It just has something to do with how units form up on the walls. Even when not attacking other units its hard to get a unit to line up correctly on the wall. When you tell the to move they just kinda wander around then pick a place to stand.

I have also experianced a weird bug with the wall where I was trying to position some archers in a single line and they would just not do it. So eventually I just doubble right clicked in the middle of the wall out of frustration and instantly they are all transported into a single line up against the wall and drop dead for no reason. Literally the entire unit just fell over and died.

I've had some weird stuff happen too on walls

there was this one knight who just would block over and over and over and never attack and he would taunt from time to time. I actually thought it was quite funny XD
