Holy moly, this is a fun mod! I keep thinking about buying Chrysis or Supreme Commander but this game is going to take all of my time for a while. Excellent work.

I tried searching the forum for that little thing where the cities arm themselves on occasion and tend to ruin my day. Is that limited to only certain cities?

Welcome to the XGM cult you mean the garrison script? Yes it's limmited to certain cities - mostly the faction capitols and some other places

Ahh...that's what it's called. I didn't know how to search for it exactly. I had it happen in Rome and Rhodes and maybe Tarsus or Antioch. Pretty fun, though.

I think at the moment those cities with garrison scripts are these: Rome, Carthage, Antioch, Alexandria and Rhodes. If you are going to take over those cities, it requires a proper preparation (= a full army of high quality troops)...or you could try to capture them with a little help from spies...

Seleucia has one too. I just started a migration campaign with Parthia and on my way to Asia Minor one of my armies stoped near Seleucia and on the next turn the citizens were allarmed by the presence of a big bunch of pink pijamas men.

I ignore the advisor and easily take Syracuse with their 300 man garrison

I gotta say I've never tried to avoid the garrison script. Why make an easy game even easier? Let yourself have some epic battle fun and face the full might of Rome today!

Yep, the main idea of those garrison scripts is to improve the performances of the AI Factions, and especially the defenses of their vital capitals. For instance a human player doesn´t sent his best army in the middle of the desert when he needs it to defend his capital, but the AI isn´t always that clever on the strategical level. Besides those big capitals some of those locations have been selected because of the famous siege battles and hard resistance.

I'm assuming that if I just hit them hard right off the bat with lots of catapults that I could take the cities before they arm their citizens. I just got caught being lazy a couple of times.

You could do it like that, however I found that just smoking them out (besieging until they surrender) seems to be a much better way to do it.

Or just move in a couple of stacks and let the blood start flying!
