Eastern AOR

Persikoi Phyletai (Iranian Mountaineers)

Hillmen from the mountains of Persia. Armed with javelins, axes, and moon-shaped 'taka' shield, they're very similar to the old day Takabara royal light infantry, though less disciplined and dirty-looking. Unlike their cowardy lowland farmers, they're very fierce and blood-thirsty, willing to crack human skulls for anyone who can pay for their service - sometimes their mere presence on battlefield is enough to rout demoralized enemies!

Kaukasioi Toxotai (Caucasian Archers)

Archers from Caucasia mountains. It's yet another eastern archer unit armed with composite bows, but carry axe as secondary weapon. Not skilled axemen like Persikoi Phyletai or Kurtioi Pelekephoroi, but it makes them more useful after running out of ammo.

Ioudaioi Thureophoroi (Jewish Medium Infantry)

Mercenary infantry recruited from Jews. These men are nothing like the clueless judean zealots, but regular soldiers trained to be 'Thureophoroi', equipped with several javelins, smaller thureos shield, and spears and swords. They are also issued with old-fashioned helmets and armours, and could be used as line infantry if you're really desperate.

Armenii Epikouroi Kataphraktoi (Armenian Auxiliary Cataphracts)

Auxiliary or Allied cataphracts from Armenian Nakharar nobility. From their apperance you could know they're one of the best cavalry units despite of the 'auxilia' status. They can easily beat almost every other cavalry/general units, including Hetairoi, Gallic nobles, Sacred Band, Iberian Scutarii, ...

The unit is only available after you build royal stables in Armenian regions - they don't sell themselves as mercenaries because the recruitment cost would be too high (reaching 10k denarii..)

Persikoi Eugeneis Hippeis (Persian Noble Cavalry)

They were once the persian satrap cavalry, the core of mighty Persian army before the demise of Achaemenid empire. Unlike cataphracts and macedonian companions, they're primarily used to skirmish and to flank the enemy, rather than launching head-on charges. If you could afford to pay, you would find them very useful in protecting the flanks or supporting general cavalry in close combat, especially against steppe nomads and other eastern heavy cavalry.

Persikoi Bareis Toxotai (Persian Heavy Archers)

The heavy archers are the remains of Persian Immortals, the true elites drawn from persian fedual nobles. They're versatile soldiers capable of archery and close combat, and disciplined enough not to rout at the first sign of defeat. They also have superior bows and archery skill which enable them to outshoot most other archers.

Persikoi Kardakes Hoplitai (Persian Imitation Hoplites)

The Kardaka (= Royal Household) are infantry trained as hoplites since the old Achaemenid Persian Empire, probably some kind of royal troops. Though not much better than the battle-hardened greek hoplites, being one of a few heavy infantry types in persia, their role is very important and irreplaceable to eastern factions, which lack good garrison militia and guard units.

@fourganger: the bow comes from KLA's persian immortal. Not sure how he made it.
@jakobh94: it's impossible because the current DMB count has already exceeded BI's & RTW's limits.
@Legio Caesar: axe comes from BI I think. But IMO it's not good enough - lack 3D details. I shall replace it in the final version

UPDATE: add 3 units.

The steppe AORs are basically finished. There could be many more units but they'd have little importance in game due to the map and current factions not covering that area.

The focus of eastern AOR will be shifted to near east - I found some pics for them and they look interesting

Karfagen is carthage right? The version 1.0 doesn't use scripts, so you can get the elite african units once you have a large city and city barracks in africa. If your cities are well-governed, it should take only a few decades.

The reforms could also be implemented as scripts like in EB - it would be more intersting and complex, but I don't really know what kind of reforms I should create, do you have any ideas on this?

The next version should come out before Christmas. I may not have enough time to complete the "evolved" barbarian part, but eastern parts plus thracians should be good enough for players who want to try something new.
