Default France taking this "best cavalry" a little too serious?

Seriously, I just played an english campaign, and the first thing I did was to invade France. And holy crap, I tell you, I must've seen dozens of half to full stacked armies with atleast 12 or even 15 units of Mailed/Feudal Knights. Which is bullcrap, I just placed stakes and pikes that completely massacred them. I mean, sure, they get good late cavalry, but it feels like they're coded to ONLY build cavalry cause of their "best western cavalry" reputation (which is bullcrap anyway). Is there any way to fix so they wont overreact to this and base their armies on nothing but cavalry? Kinda ruins the fun when you play against them.

france actually never has the finest cavalry in the west. I had to change stats in export_desc_units so they did. In the regular game id say the best cavary in the west is england (english kngihts, demi-lancers, hobilars, they got it all covered and at the best price) or perhaps the hre (just because of imperial knights, gothic knights suck). Spain or scotland could boast the best light cavalry. The only thing france has going for it is great horse archers...(????)

Lancers are pretty mean, but still, they're very expensive and comes really late.

Dude french lancers rocks! They will kill any other knights including chilvaric knights and those holy knights from chapter houses. Same goes for the gothic knights. Lancers and gothic knights are the best of the west, both in looks fighting capabilities.

U trust the text and stuff too much. If you actually test lancers against other units u will see, much to yr suprise i guess, they are no better than any other heavy cav, even feudal knights do fine against them. english knights, norman knights, imperial knights, etc beat them easy.

well the cavalry units that u faced arent french only units. The best cavalry statement comins into play during the late game, also dont use stakes if u want to have a challange against the AI.

Never noticed that accually. I usually take most of their castles early on though, so they are stuck with militia units for the rest of the game.

If you want a challenge set the battle difficulty higher so they dont charge into the stakes nearly as often!

They end up doing so if they have over 4 units. If it's just 4, they divide them into 2 on each side, and charge from the sides, into my pikemen, and die. If they're over that the others usually just charge right into the stakes. I'm going to try and out the difficulty a bit higher, now that I am starting a new campaign anyway. We'll see how it goes, unfortunately I wont have the pleasure of attacking france just yet.

If you are england and take on france early on, then they are easy to beat because of the fact you have longbowmen who can shoot half of them down before they reach you, you only need a few spearmen units to beat them then. they are probably harder if you are a faction like spainyou has rubbish early spearmen. Basically england kicks frances ass early in the game.

Hmmm... english longbowmen versus French knights... sounds like Agincourt!

And we all know how that ends up...

    Five_of_Swords and gil-galad

Five Sword is probably right, I know him and I'm sure he did some testing, and this is also a mater of opinion and what you like and don't like. Bancers are good like other units but they all have a weaknest. Like everyone of us!!!!

Well i tried lancers out and they defeated chilvaric knights and templar knights but owned by gothic knights but haven't tested specifically againist feudal knights. Their main weakness which they have in common with goths is that they don't carry shields so suffer heavily againist missile units with ap attack.
