Default Finnish writer: Estonia to lose independence in 10 years

Finnish writer Johan Bäckman forecasts that Estonia has only ten years of independence left.

Postimees writes that Bäckman who is an expert of criminology and law and is currently looking for a publisher for his new book “Bronze Soldier” says that Estonia is about to collapse.

“The book is about the April riots, the situation around the Bronze Soldier and the “classified” history of Estonia and Finland. Estonia is going towards a precipice and has no more than ten years as an independent country,” writes Bäckman.
In the opinion of the expert, the removal of the Bronze Soldier monument was the final date in the history of Estonia.

I do not think that this topic deserves own thread. This is just one opinion. That's all.

I assume that the large Nationalistic Russian minority is suppose to cause instability, leading to a cassus belli, leading to Estonia's annexation? Is that the logic behind this?

Too bad the author forgets Estonia is part of NATO so Russia won't try to annex it.

Such as?... What the hell is your point any way? If Russia tries to annex a member they'll have the entire alliance at their doorstep.

Simple put: Russia will not confront NATO directly, period!

Bäckman is a known nutcase. Pay no heed.
The common culture of a tribe is a sign of its inner cohesion. But tribes are vanishing from the modern world, as are all forms of traditional society. Customs, practices, festivals, rituals and beliefs have acquired a flut and half-hearted quality which reflects our nomadic and rootless existence, predicated as we are on the global air-waves.

    1. The guy positing this is a raving lunatic, as other have already said. It's not likely to ever happen. Ridiculous notion, blah blah blah.

    2. Even if it was, who'd really care that much, honestly? It's ing Estonia. Not like it's...Poland or Sweden or something reasonably important. It's a pathetic little nub of swamp on the edge of the Baltic, smaller than West Virginia. Feh.

I would care, you should care. You want to take one of the greatest producers of cheap labour away from us?

On a more serious note, if Russia were to attack a fellow NATO country, we'd have to act. If we don't, then why should we even have this alliance? What if Estonia gets annexed, no one cares. Then Russia attacks America (Alaska was originally a Russian colony...Just listing possible explanations, here. ) and no one cares.

Which would be good for the rest of NATO, but if Russia beats the US whats stopping them?

It sort of looks quite neat to me. If I had to pick West Virginia or Estonia to visit, I'd certainly pick Estonia.

I don't think Russia will attack Estonia. It wouldn't make sense in any way. I think that an editor just wants to be published badly. If he wrote that Aliens would attack nobody would give him a second glance. Nobody really should anyway.

    Ha Ha. Ha.

I'd volunteer to fight for the Estonian cause.

Can't really see it happening. Russia intervened in South Ossetia and Abkhazia but apparently most of ethnic Abkhaz and Ossetians were pleased as punch with that. On the other hand, if it annexed Estonia it would face strong local resistance. I actually think it's more likely that if things come to the head the ethnic Russians will end up being pushed out, one way or another.

I realize you were being sarcastic, but I have noticed some who aren't.

Why the does it matter how small or insignificant Estonia is? There are still people living here, PEOPLE, not just food you can feed the bear with.
