Default What the KING is wrong with diplomacy?!?

So far I have been able to gain two things through diplomacy; map information & Trade rights.
When I surrounded the Welsh in their last city of Montgomery, and they were outnumbered by so many troops besieging them, I thought it would be a foregone conclusion that they would accept my terms and become protectorate, as it was they would not even accept a ceasefire! What is this Medieval: Total Idiot?
Is there a way I can solve this obvious bug, has someone produced a decent mod?

You have to understand the diplomacy and the army AI are two competly sperate programs and these will sometimes come into conflict. An example would be Germany. Now the campaign AI will want to attack France because it sees it as a threat and the Diplomatic AI will say no because they have had trade for 50 turns.

Please remembe that this part of the AI doesn't work competly, so there will always be problems. If you really want to go with a vassal state, then siege them with your armyand leave, repeat this several times and the IA will accept. Please try this, if it doesn't work ask someone else.

Sadly, the M2TW AI is pretty poor. So, either follow Rebel6666's suggestions or just bring an end to the Welsh.

Thankyou very much for that rebel, it was a great help to me although it's too late for the Welsh to be appreciative, they are finished along with Llewelyn.
I don't like to play the game by painting the map red (Roman style) so it's good to know how to bring an opposing nation to it's knees.
