    Default Log trouble

My M2TW installation randomly deleteing my logs folder on startup. (And the system.log.txt inside of it as well.) It's getting really irritating because I have to load up M2TW three or four times before it stops deleting the log, and I have to recreate the log each time. I need to see those error messages! I even tried opening up the logs folder with Windows Explorer, hoping that there would be some kind of resource conflict if M2TW tried to delete the logs folder, but it keeps booting me out to the parent folder. Has anyone else had these problems? How do I fix it?

Im using Windows Vista and M2TW/Kingdoms 1.5

The old log file is deleted and a new one created every time you start M2. It should still be there when you close M2 though. Typically I run in windowed mode and view the log with the game still running.

No, the log file does not regenerate and is not there when I close M2TW. As I said, not only is the log file deleted, so is the log folder.

Have you tried not closing it, just pressing alt+tab and check?

Yes, that's what I have been doing. I keep Windows Explorer open as I launch M2TW. I use windowed mode when I am developing, so I can see the name of the current folder in the strip along the bottom of the screen. As soon as M2TW gets to the first load screen (after all of the intro videos and before the main menu), the name of the folder down in that stop changes from "logs" to "Medieval II TotalWar" I just get booted from the folder. This happens every time I play M2TW, but the logs folder only gets deleted ~50% of the time. (Other times, I can open the logs folder when M2TW hits the main menu.) Maybe M2TW deletes the log every time, but is not recreating it on certain occasions for some strange reason? When the logs folder is deleted, I can start a new campaign and then quit and close M2TW, but the log will not regenerate.

I have the same problem as Azim. Same OS, same version of M2K.

Testing stuff becomes very annoying very quickly if the log is generated only every second time or so...

    Cheers!

Some mods place the log into a different folder. Check your cfg file where the log directory is.
It certainly shouldn't delete the folder!

I'm pretty sure the cfg for the mod I'm using specifies, system.log.txt, but I'll check just in case. Anyway, if this was the problem, the log would be deleted everytime, but it is only deleted ~50% of the time.

To be honest, I have never heard of that problem before. I have played the game now since it came out and have installed it several times on different computers but not a problem like your log.
In fact I was upset with myself sometimes if I didn't save the log somewhere else for comparison.
