Default Merchant rights? Stronghold rights? Both?

    Hi

First of all: What an excellent mod. I played 2.5 and liked it, but 3.0 kicks so much more derriere. I got a few questions though.

I'm playing Denmark in the Dark Ages. I gave merchant rights to my settlement in Aros, but the option to build stronghold rights is still there. Are they mutually exclusive? Or can I build both?

I'm also a bit confused about religion. Since I'm pagan, I can build a pagan temple, but I can also build churches in all sizes. I guess those are catholic churches, right? Why would I want to build those?

    thnx/EoE

You can build both Market and Stronghold at the same time... I'm not sure about religion.

Yes, both these Rights are possible. I decided it that way, because it wouldn't make sense to restrict city settlements from the Military Rights, because it is just the feature for the city settlements to recruit quite good units, while that is anyway enabled for the castles. Whereas, the Rights are limited to some certain conditions anyway. And, i wonder why nobody have mentioned the not possible switch between castle and town settlement types ... this is of course a base for the whole new tech/building-tree system, it wouldn't make sense to have the ability to switch. Although we discussed the option to switch in the highest tiers from castle to city settlement (an open point still for a future version).

Thank you! I really like the city/castle setup you have now. It seems a much more historic and flexible solution than the rigid caste or city setup in the vanilla game. So in my book you don't need to change a thing, it's perfect as it is.

I still don't get the religion aspect though. Should I, as pagan Denmark, build churches?

    tnx/EoE

    Yes, limited.

    @EoR
I haven't really checked the DA setting in this part. But normally you shouldn't be able to build churches as a pagan faction. This is certianly a wip thing especially for the DA campaign ... alike a few other things

Ah, okay. Well, I guess I'll just build them anyway and let the resulting turmoil represent the religious struggle of the time.

We should try to reflect the change of the "states religion" historically. This would for example need eventually an extra church building string with exlusive conditions for factions that go from pagan to christianity andthelike.

Yeah, that would be neat. It would probably also make it easier with the post-convertion problem: What to do with the pagan temple and its nice .5% population growth bonus?

    cheers/EoE

    Back to the rights thing.

I've played only as Saxons in the DA on med/med for background clarification in case it matters.

On the rights issue, I've had them available in London, and as towns grow, in other settlements too. AND, I've had them only available in London, regardless of town growth and buildings built.

    I r officially confuzeled now.

I'm playing dark age danes too. BEsides that, there's also the bug of the invisible general, and of course the weird speech about how "civilized nations will be awed by our victory today" when you win. (if someone doesn't get it, vikings aren't very civilized). Could also include an conversion event (like in lituania for the Teutonic capmpaign) that converts pagan shrines to christian shrines/churces or whatever and allows building catholic churches. I'm gonna be pagan forever anyway...
