Default The AI gets reinforcements in his towns...

So, each time i attack a settlement, the ai gets his settlement filled up with soldiers, even though he originally only got 1 or 2 units. This makes the game pretty hard, but i thought as long as this is the same for me, it's ok.

But it's not the same for me. i can attack, and the ai gets lots of units to defend his base (without buying them previously or anything). When the ai attacks one of my settlements, i don't get any free reinforcements, i still have to fight with what i originally had stationed there, no backup or reinforcements like the ai gets.

Is this a bug, is there something i am doing wrong or is this the way it is supposed to be?

    Thanks.

This is called a garrison script and is to simulate that all able bodied men would try and defend the town. Its a way to help the AI since it doesn't have a brain. Read about it in the description of the mod. Personally I think it is a great feature once you get used to it.

I often get round it by using artillery units and taking settlements immediately. It is a good feature although a little galling when there's a poorly defended settlement which fills up with militia troops when you attack but you don't get the same benefits in the reverse role, but then it makes it interesting.

The troop quality of the called up reserves is usually low grade, so far in my fights anyways. So, it's not so bad as the RTW thing used to be where rebel towns could fill up with better units and multi gold chevron exp.

Another way to take a settlement without a long siege is to wait for a force to set itself right outside the settlement. Attack that fielded force and, more times than not, the settlement garrison will be drawn out in a field fight too.
