    Default Can't Build Churches???

I am playing as the Latin Empire of Constantinople in the High Era campaign, and I cannot build Churches anywhere. If I destroy the Orthodox Churches, I cannot replace them with Catholic ones. I also control Jerusalem, and have converted over 60% of the population to Catholicism, and still cannot build a Catholic Church in Jerusalem. Why is this?

Because it is correct that way, historically. To have actually Catholic churches in Greece would render it unrealistic. And btw., a christian player who destroys christian churches has anyway not the moral right to build any churches ... unfortunately i cannot increase the penalty if this is done, i would if i could ...lol.

Didn't the christians build churches everywhere?
In most of the places the church was build before the house.

Yes, but in medieval the christians didn't destroy the churches in conquered places. For example, you have churches in Ravenna built by Iustinian, Theodorich of the germans etc.

Believe me, I do not want to destroy the Hagia Sofia, but I would like to have Catholic Churches in my lands, so that I can convert the people to Catholicism and so I can train Catholic Priests (this also is very historical). And why am I unable to build a Catholic Church in Jerusalem? There are no religious buildings there at all. No Mosques or anything.

Plus, as an aside, at this point in history, the Schism was still at its peak, and if a Catholic ruler of a conquered Orthodox province wanted to destroy a "Schismatic" church to replace it with a Catholic one, that was usually received rather well by the fellow Catholic powers.

At the very least I should be able to convert the Churches into Catholic Churches.

I have the same problem with the Roman Empire in Dark Age. I believe SV stated that was a problem with hidden requirements and that should not happen.

I believe they may be dependent on hidden resources. I thought I removed this, but I will check.

@Davinci: Righto! At least it is good to know this is not an intended feature. I totally understand that it takes a lot of time to complete this mod. No mod worth having ever came quickly (just look at EB!). I shall patiently wait until the time when this problem is solved, and until it is, I will still continue to play and enjoy this superb mod!

@Luke Evans: All my faithful subjects need churches. Plus, where am I, the Emperor, going to worship?

Well, as said, Early, Late and also Ren should be quite proper provided in all aspects. In principle there a few certain adjustments to do for those special factions in the added campaigns with 3.0. But, i'm personally against a "wild" or "total free" building zoc (zone of construction) and zor (zone of recruitment). Atm. it's all up to SV himself what the next patch will have as content-changes, i'm only an adviser these days in this project, and forum moderator from time to time. Well, this mod is set up to reflect historical things, and not fantasy-history of the player wishes (at least that is my understanding of Chivalry II).

Btw., the Latin Empire lasted not very long. And no, Catholics never destroyed Orthodox churches and vice versa as well not (at least not by actual "state" factions, and not in our timeframe, afaik). There was no fanatic religious competition between Rome and Constantinople. That Catholics conquered Constantinople and parts of Greece was a clear economical thing, and hadn't anything to do with religion. Despite this, the popes and the orthodox patriarchs weren't the best friends for the most time, that's true.

Indeed, and I have no desire to destroy Orthodox Churches. My first assumption had simply been that I could not build Catholic Churches because Orthodox ones already existed (such as in RTW, when you can't build a Temple to Jupiter when a Temple to Baal already exists, etc.)

I am also against a free range, but it is plausible that, had th Latin Empire endured, and converted large numbers of the population to Catholicism, they would have built Catholic churches in their empire. But I am totally for the limited scale. It wouldn't be realistic for the Latin Empire to get hordes of Western units, when most of their population is Greek. All I'm talking about is Churches though, which I feel are historically accurate, or at least historically plausible, everywhere.

Another question. Somewhat related, so I figured better to recycle this thread than start another new one. If that is poor procedure on these forums, I apologize, and will not do again if told.

    Anyways, on to my question:

Why can I not destroy pagan temples?

Firstly, I can destroy Christian Churches and Moslem Worship Centres, and even synagogues (though granted, in this game those aren't really religious in function), but not pagan temples. This confuses me.

Secondly, this is not historically accurate. While Christians may not have destroyed each others churches (except for rare occasions), they most certainly destroyed centres of pagan worship. Why, even the great Oracle at Delphi was destroyed.

Third, this really hurts gameplay, as the temple provides +3% conversion bonus to paganism, which makes it hard for a Catholic King to maintain Catholicism in the province.

Hopefully this will be fixed in a later patch. I just find it a bit frustrating, when, say, playing as Scotland, I control Inverness, but I cannot destroy the pagan temple there (by the way, why does Iverness start with a pagan temple in the High Period when Scotland controls it?).

This is fixed in the patch (which is not released yet).

How long are we talking? Can it be applied to an existing campaign, or will I have to start a new one for it to take effect?

Anyway I can fix this myself?... I'm impatient. Or is it more than just changing something in a descr file?

Edit the export_descr_buildings_dark.txt and _early.txt, and remove the hidden_resource main requirement from all the Churches and Mosques.

You can build "christian pilgrims" structure in Jerusalem and other cities of Outramere they act like invisible on battle map churches (slowly) converting people and producing clergy, I personaly like the slow pace the SV introduced, convertions of regions were indeed matter of decades if not centuries...
One sugestion: introduction of unremovable ortodox monateries with 10% convertion as they preserved the eastern christainity in Greece during the Latin and Ottoman ocupations... BTW the same fanatic monks were reasons why the Union attempts always backfired.

We already have such a building for the Pagan religion, and I think this would be a good idea to do the same for the rest of the rest of the religions. Very good suggestion
