My work(not my models) here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=269979 I have done some mixing webbird/warspite models to create new types, but I am no skinner so limited in what I can do. Any ideas how to help??? Flat shield bugs me...
    Okay...

    1) About the changing of weapons, from what I know about that, it all has to do with moddeling, gimp dosn't help with that. 2) If you don't like flat shields you'll still have to edit the model to change that.

And about UV mapping...I can't even remmeber what that is sorry, it's been awhile. Hoped I helped somewhat.

UV maps are those weird lines you see after UV-mapping a model Then you need to to add a texture to it , so that the engine knows wich part of the texture has to go on a part of the model

I don't think that it has .dds plugin yet :

    Plug-ins:

    - Map the 'Linear Dodge' layer mode in PSD files to the 'Addition'
    layer mode in GIMP
    - Add JPEG2000 load plug-in
    - Add X11 mouse cursor plug-in
    - Add support for loading 16bit (RGB565) raw data
    - Add palette exporter for CSS, PHP, Python, txt and Java, accessed
    through palette context menu
    - Add plug-in API for getting image URI, for manipulating size of
text layers, for getting and setting text layer hint, and for
    unified export dialog appearance

My bad, guess not. I've got a new version without the plug-in and I can still open dds. files though.

Perhaps you upgraded from an older version , but your .dds plug-in still remained untouched

How do I make shields? I wish to give hoplites shields that are do not have a rotated symmetry, but can only give one quarter that flips four times.
    Edit:
How would I add a crest, that would be bad-ass on alot of units.

I've never had trouble saving the DMB file. Try saving it in different locations and see if that helps.

also, it says cannot create decr_model_battle.txt
make sure that the path and file name are correct.
what does it mean? is it a vista only error?

Yes. you must disable User Account Control.

It's somewhere in your configuration. just google it, there are loads of posts that explain how to disable it

OK NEVERMIND I GOT IT FIGURED OUT

hey there is no 'textures' in the folder called 'models_unit' just another folder called 'attachments' and a whole lot of CAS files

''Chosse the place where your going to save the skin. Make sure you save it in C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\models_unit\textures. But before you save it there change it's name to something new_unit.tga
or do what I do just add a o to it's name like - unit_easterno_archer.tga After you've done that a box will appear asking what compression you want to save your dds file in. (if it donsn't ask this that means your not saying this in dds format, fix that) Make sure you save it in BCT3/DXT5 and check the box that says generate mip maps.''

Did you forget to pt in the folder called packs? or have i done something wrong

Also when you save it there is no dx/ct thing. There are similar ones but they are missing the letter T.

And if you want to replace the current unit skin and get rid of the old one, could you just save it with the same name as the old one? So say you have hastati_etc.DDS you could add stuff and just save it as hastati_etc.DDS and replace the old one and you wouldn't have to change other files
