I hope they never get any better than this. A powerful China is a dangerous China.

Why would you like a nation in which minorities are opressed like that, with such a high poverty, with an openly authoritarian system, with a very high pollution level, many human rights violations, no freedom of speech; a country with corrupt politicians and incredible scandals (like the recent one with baby food) and thousands of other problems?

    A great accomplishment indeed.
China is the only country after the USA and Soviet Union to "independently put a man in space"

No, and that maybe a good thing, because a China guided by populist opinion would be an even more dangerous China.

    thousands of other problems?
Because China has the population of North America + Europe and some more.
People are the source of all problems. More people = more problem.

    incredible scandals
That involves a foreign corporation with (ONLY?!) 43% shares that claim no knowledge.

spacewalking is a big achievement for a country.
China being the 3rd country to do it. Pretty incredible, and pretty scandalous, I must add. China? Why not Japan?
Say a great deal about the space race already.

There are proportionally a lot more problems than their huge population allows for.

also, Japan is a much stabler, safer and more democratic country, thus much more likeable

I liked how chinese media released the article on the success of the launch, including quotes of an exchange between mission control and the astronauts in space....hours before the ship actually launched. Hilarious!

According to state media this demonstrates the superiority of the Chinese political system over the West's 'corrupt, divisive and inept policy-making'. Well my country might not have spent a bizillion dollars to put some guy in space, but when I go down to the supermarket I can still buy a bottle of milk, drink it and not get kidneystones. Unless it was made in China.

Curious how the state media would justify such a claim since US put a man in space decades ago including on the moon...if they mean Europe specifically there is nothing stopping Europe from doing it other then what would be the point if not aiming for something larger (like Mars). Not having the same priorities/goals of another state most certainly isnt a sign of superiority. I suppose we american can hence claim superiority of our system because we spend more on our military...something that is clearly not the case but about as valid as state media's claim.

So its funny if state media would use it as an example of political superiority as opposed to been there, done that. What next will China invent fire? Maybe gravity or electricity.
