    Default Alamanoi

What's up with this unit? Zweihanders in 12th century Byzantium?

I know SS isn't necessarily a historically accurate mod but surely this unit should be a late era unit.

Well you can get gothic knights / pikes and other late era units pretty early if you have a hi chiv governor and focus on population buildings. I remember getting gendarmes/tercio pikes as aragon like in 13th century, and I got Templar Zweihanders pretty early as well. So to be fair Alamanoi aren't really unrealistic by themselves, its just a problem with Constantinople advancing very quickly.

My advice is get the sub-mod RR as units become available after certain years more realistically. So you wont get pikes, polearms, gothic armor etc until certain years. If you already have that mod ( I personally don't care for it, but I understand the desire for a more historical feel) and you are seeing Alamonoi for some reason, I'd suggest you go ask the particular people in charge of that mod or fix it in your own files.

Yeah, I'm not running RR so you're right there.

I think the issue is that I don't see why the Byzantines should be able to build high quality mercenary troops like these from a Militia Barracks. They should either be hired like normal mercs only in the late period campaign or require a higher level bulding (Army Barracks or Barracks from a Fortress).

Because the Byzantines start with a large city (Constantinople) they tend to spam this unit from there.

just change it to be a different unit then, change their model to something with different weapons in the descr_units file and also change the soldier used for it to something that fits the animations of the new model. Editing cards and such would be more tricky though and changing the name causes a crash, at least for me it does.

Well I'm unlikely to do that, I'd either change the level of builing required to something higher, or more likely remove them completely.

Zweihanders like that weren't really used until the 16th century, and the Byzantine Empire had been conquered by that stage.
