If Russia sends in special forces they most certainly don't do it in crappy Mi-8's. In Afghanistan they were transported in Mi-24's, I think they'd do the same in any modern conflict.

The MV Faina was seized on Thursday with a crew of 21 people on board as it neared the Kenyan port of Mombasa with a cargo of T-72 battle tanks, grenade launchers and ammunition destined for Kenya's military.

"They are demanding 35 million dollars for the ransom, but I think it is the start of the negotiation," said Andrew Mwangura, coordinator of the East Africa Seafarers Assistance Program.

Russia has no reason to invade the country, but a military expedition using spetsnaz from offshore frigates with helicopter gunships as support is always a possibility; just go in to remove the pirates, liberate hostages, and reclaim the shipment for happy-points with the nation that was supposed to receive the stuff.

Those pirates need an ass-kicking anyway.
