    Default Early era elephants?

I love playing with/against elephants but i dislike late era, is it possible to replace elephant gunmen by archers, crossbowmen or javelinmen? (only by text editing)

    Sort of.

You can give the elephants arrows for projectiles through text editing. However, this way they'll just look like they're firing harpoon guns. To make them look like actual crossbowmen or archers you'll have to dabble in unit graphics and animations.

No, its possible to change the riders of elephants simply by text editing. I forgot how though.

    Here's a start:
    Code:
soldier Name of the soldier model to use (from descr_models_battle.txt)
followed by the number of ordinary soldiers in the unit
followed by the number of extras (pigs dogs, elephants, chariots artillery pieces etc attached to the unit)
followed by the collision mass of the men. 1.0 is normal. [Only applies to infantry]
You can at least change the model of the mount. I don't know what the model of a crossbowman is called, but you can find it in the vanilla text files.

    I've replaced "elephant_crew" with "me_archer".

The first problem is that the man on the elephant's head is standing instead of sitting on it, but it's not so horrible. Second problem, the archers have no bow in their hands when they fire, in fact the bow are floating upon their head...

Gonna try with javelinmen to see if their is such problem with javelins.

EDIT : same floating weapon's problem with javelinmen. I've tried horse_archer model : the bowmen are invisible.

    Finally I give up.
