Time ago I started a thread about not liking SS's new sky textures. But it isn't all of them; in fact, I love many of them, especially some night ones. Or that clear sunny day when you can even see the jet contrails in the sky!No but don't take me wrong, I love that one, the contrails don't bother me and the sky is so blue. I've not seen such a blue sky in years, thanks to pollution.
As I've been playing a lot, I've come to pinpoint the single one I hate: It is sunset rain. I mean the one that looks like this:
It isn't even all of the ambient I hate, but just that beige color of the mountains. It is so contrasting with the blackened sky that it irritates the mind. It is just too unnatural. I've checked vanilla sunset_rain and there, the horizon is beige but the sky is beige too... Making a plausible ambient.
I want to try two approaches (I already have in fact but without success).
A) What defines the beige color of the mountains? If this could be modded into moderately dark grey, or at least into a rusty dark brown, I think the whole picture would improve vastly.
B) Return to vanilla sunset_rain. I've tried replacing sunset_rain in SS with vanilla version, but the ugly sky keeps appearing. In fact, I've tried deleting globallighting entirely, as King Kong himself suggested, and nothing happens- the new sky textures do not go away.
I wonder if there is not a file that must be deleted in order for changes in globallighting to register? I mean similar to having to delete map.rwm for certain changes on tha map to register.
Please help, sunset rain is driving me nuts.
