    Default Patch comedy

I've been playing RTW and BI a long, long time, and jumbling together mods into subfolders even longer.

As you all know, RTW can get cranky and break if you fiddle too much, and require a reinstall. This happened recently.

I reinstalled, patched to 1.5, installed BI, attempted to patch to 1.6

Now for some reason it gives me the "this will only patch 1.3 to 1.5" error when I try to patch BI to 1.6, I know for a fact that RTW will do the patch even if RTW is at 1.5 already. I have uninstalled and reinstalled in different orders and had no luck. I seem to be stuck with a RTW at 1.5 and BI at 1.4

    Help?

Im guessing youll need to unistall then go into the registy. type in the run command 'regedit' youll need to go through all the files and look for either activision, CA or SEGA... there maybe all of these but the file your lookin for will be in either one of them. then just delete all files on them if im correct, you may want somone to confirm it though.

Hm. I have a bunch of mods in separate subfolders, will this mean I have to reinstall all these mods too? I mean, they aren't in the same Activision directory as my vanilla RTW

For example, I have Roma Surrectum under

    C:/Program Files/Activision/RTW Mods/RS

as opposed to the vanilla which is under

    C:/Program Files/Activision/RTW

You can always copy the mod folders somewhere else (or burn them to CD-ROM / DVD -ROM). Simply copy them back after RTW has been installed correctly.

If you want to find out which version of the game is installed look on the top right hand corner of the options menu - do this for both RTW and RTW BI.

Thank you, but as I've said I know how to check which version I have. It isn't exactly mod folders, it's seperate instances of the RTW directory renamed and with the mod added to it. Won't critical files be mucked over if I uninstall RTW and everything completely?

In your first post you stated that it was a certain version. The only way to make sure is to launch the game and look at the options menu - you did not state that this is what you had done which is why I suggestyed doing that. When RTW 1.5 has a version of RTW BI installed over it the RTW downgrades to RTW 1.3 and RTW BI 1.4 (with certain versions of RTW BI).

If you keep your copies of RTW in different folders and only uninstall the original game and delete the original folder then no it won't mess up your other games. You will need to reinstall first to add the entry into the Windows Registry.

The install will only update the Windows Registry with details of the game. You can then run the game from any folder (this is what has happened with your seperate folders).

If you have different copies of the RTW folder you may find that only one of them is broken and the others are OK.

I've moved my mods to a separate location for now, hopefully I will be able to reinstall the original without issue. Ty for help.

Where did you get the patch from? I think there are some patches out there on the web that will cause errors like this.
