Hi all, long time reader (non-registered), first time poster here
I had an interesting experience the other day. I was playing as the French on vanilla and the pope died, so the papal election window pops up. At this point I had taken Rome and all papal lands (he had a province or two on the Iberian peninsula), and I had been excommunicated several times. However, the majority of the college of cardinals was filled with my priests, bishops and cardinals.
Anyways, the election window pops up, I cast my vote, I get the little nice cinematic, and then the election results window. I can clearly see that my cardinal received the most amount of votes, yet another faction cardinal was elected as pope.
The question I have really is if this is a common, scripted thing, or just some weird incident. I certainly know that historically there was a lot of political behind the curtains kind of thing happening with the papal elections. Some weren't recognized as legitimate popes, we had anti-popes, etc, etc, so I wasn't particularly surprised at this, but didn't remember reading or hearing anywhere that this kind of thing was scripted in the game. If that's the case, then I guess I gotta say good job to the devs![]()
