    Default fighting germans

I'm about to commence invasion of germania with 7 auxilia legions and 2 republican legions, I don't see any big german armies except near their capital but i know they might be hiding in the woods and i was wondering if anyone has advice on how to beat them, I assumed they were like gauls but stronger but not so sure now.

where are the remaining 5 republican legions that the auxlias belong to?
People will believe a lie because they want it to be true; or they're afraid it's true.
Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe its true, or because they're afraid it might be true. Peoples' heads are full of knowledge, facts and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

Snowball - Lol, destroyed in Teutoburg forest?

Hammy the Hamster - my strategy how to defeat Germans is simple - dont attack them. No, Im not kidding. WHENEVER you move your armies into the german territory, be sure that they will end turn either within the fort or in an area which could be easily defended. Dont move your armies TO the enemy city you want to conquer but FURTHER, leaving one army behind to besiege the city (where is your army the easiest target for any army coming from the outside) and position the rest around to knock down other approaching armies...

And one good advice: I dont know how far you are in your campaign, but assuming you have republican legions its not beginning, so If I were you, I WOULDNT enter forests of Germania with only two legions and some auxilia. Those auxilia legions will be toasted and you will do no serious harm with two legions only, you can be pretty sure you wont...

The missing legions are because I don't have very many large cities yet, I rushed the marius reforms by sending loads of town watch to disband in my capital so I'm using mostly auxilia until i can recruit more.

How do the germans do on the battle map? will they just rush forward and slaughter me? in vanilla they had amazing cavalry and archers too.

Oh man, why did you do that? Firstly, its some kind of cheating in my opinion, secondly, it only spoils your game...SPQR mod is set up perfectly as it is...I had reforms in 193 BC, thanks to Rhegion and great governor in it, lol, other cities are starting to build their highest tier palaces now, about 189 BC And I play in a normal steady pace...Do you want to tell me that you couldnt wait those twenty years?

Yes seriously. Its the mans game let him play how he wants. I'm sure by now he knows you disapprove of rushing reforms, and that the Germans are tough.

Now perhaps we can help him a bit?

how do you want to help someone that is attacking germania with only one hand? he will win a few battles but eventualy he needs to pull back his legions to reinforce his depleted legions, so it will be up to his auxilia legions, don' t forget thy are less qualified to kick superior german armies, and don' t foget if thy charge you thy will charge at full strenght.

I've never fought a war in any TW game where I can't win and I hope that this campaign could give a serious challenge - how many people plan a campaign and then execute it perfectly? I want a war where i might need to change plans, retreat, lose land etc.

Anyway the campaign is VH/M, I have all the Gaellic lands except that one in Iberia and attacked every border settlement the germans have with the auxilia legions and moved the proper legions to fend off counter attacks. The first battle was outside a southern settlement beginnig with a 'D'. The auxilia legion was attacked by a full stack backed up by 5 units or so from the garisson, both armies were led by a warlord and some gothics but fortunately no chosen, just thousands of axemen. eventually I won and lost 850 men, a few germans survived but routed. some of the losses can be replaced immediately in the settlement but not all. that took about an hour and a half so i stopped and will finis the turn later.

Be advised that though those beasts dont have any strong armies near your border that does mean they dont have them. Actually, they will be attracted as bees from the hive to honey to the first legion you use to cross their borders and be sure they have plenty of chosen axemen, berserkers and gothic cavalry to throw on you. And as Hesus perfectly said, with armed force you gathered they are gonna tear you into pieces! So forget their lands for the moment, there is not anything really precious anyway.

If you wanted to know how to defeat them, mostly its about economical superiority and numbers, you have to wear them down. Get together at least 10 legions, 5 republican legions is a minimum, be sure to have them with a general with chirurgeon. And then send them to fight behind Rhine and Danube. Meanwhile, get some mediterranean cities to increase your profit and for gods sake - DONT RUSH YOUR GAME! Let enemy develop so he can fight back

I underestimated the germans as well but now my invasion is on its way...in my campaign greece has grown extemely strong in the meantime and they seem to fight quite a lot against germania...is it possible that the bulk of the german armies in his campaign were toasted by greece?

They even "helped" me getting rid of some german armies in the area around Castra...by now the germans don't seem to have a lot of reinforcements anymore...at least their attacks have stopped...at the moment Castra is mine but under siege by greece constantly...germania is more or less inactive...fighting a full-stack greek army is in my opinion more painful than fighting germans...it was definitely a big mistake to let greece grow so strong...they have at least 7 armies in the Castra area and there will probably be some more...I would secure my borders and invade greece first...I never got to do that, because I started fighting germania first, but I heard greece is a powerhouse for money and at the moment I wish they were just gone...getting into greece now will take ages in my campaign...maybe reconsider your plans...either way, you will need more/better troops...you won't get very far with those I guess, no matter who you invade

Start your invasion at lover greece first take sparta, athens,... taking out sparta means taking out there heaviest infanterie units. the spartan hoplites.

you can beat german cavalry except when its like 6 to 7 of them and you only have 3 spear units. your legion will get decimated.

I slightly disagree...Fighting greeks is by far easier (if they dont bring Spartans of course) than germans...Their sword hoplites/hoplites/armoured hoplites stacks with one medium cavalry and some peltasts or achers are toast comparing to 6 or 7 units of Gothic cavalry...Just imagine almost ONE THOUSAND HORSEMEN storming your infantry line...If you dont have tactical skills to fight with your spear auxilia one unit after another, you are doomed to certain failure...Not mentioning chosen axemen and berserkers...Oh my...
