Default The Making of: Bloody Winter

ill try to guild you true the process of making this pic, so behold "the making of"(if you have any questions just ask)
i used Photoshop, but any similar program will probably do fine as well

now let us begin, all that i used is in the spoiler below
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

this is what i started with:

resource1, the first sky i used:

    resource2, the dirt stuff:

    made that from:

    resource3, the sky:

    from:

Step1) first i went intro image>adjustments>auto level/auto color/auto contrast(you can better do that manually if it doesn't give you the desired effect), to make more blue.

Step2) now duplicate your layer and apply a gradient map(image>adjustments>gradient map) of black and blue

Step3) as stated in the pic above set the opacity to ~50%, you'll now have this:

Step4) this was a waste of time as i later decided to use a different sky, take resource1 and put it to luminosity

Step5) now lets add some dirt grunge texture to it, using texture2, set to hard light(just try different blending modes till you find one suitable)

Step6) decided to add a new sky, resource3, no blending mode was needed.

Step7) now comes the fun, snow
i'd suggest you take a look at this snow tutorial. take a hard brush and paint white dots (on a new layer)

Step8) now smudge the dots which you've just created,

Step9) i should have done this before but i still can, so go back to the first layer and gradually blur the distance

Step10) bigger snow flakes, you know the drill just take a bigger brush

Step11) simply add some borders(on a new layer!)

    Step12)
now underneath the borders paint dark red with a grunge brush, and set to hard light(or any other blending mode)

Final) add more blood and its finished

    any questions/suggestions are appreciated

Great stuff and a brilliant pic. So, to make snow you just used a brush to make blots and then smudged each one individually or with one large brush to do several the same way?

I've trtied some of your snow technique, but slightly diffrently and with Gimp.

    Better or worse people?

    Before

    After

I'll add this to my gallery now.

Is it better without or with the snow you think?

Try making the blood more spattery on the metal armour of the hoorse, you could use a blood brush perhaps on a new transparent layer, and then bump map and gloss it, then paint some draker light over it to make it fit the mood.

Try turning down the light of the sky a bit more

    It's very good though
