    Default Vista Issues

I have already posted in the bug report thread but I wanted to cast my net so to speak...so has anyone else had problems running DVL with Vista64? I am able to run it fine for a few turns then it will randomly CTD buring AI turn. I was just hoping someone with Vista had a fix for this since those few turns I am able to play are awesome! I really want to play this mod but I may have to shelve it and try another if I can't get it fixed. Any help anyone can offer would help me greatly!

    @Lord Willy

I think you meant to say delete the string BIN files in that folder, if you delete the txt. files DLV definitely won't work.

That can't be right. You sure you didn't delete the files in your vanilla M2TW data/text instead?

Does DLV 5.6 work under Vista ?
Look into the technical thread TW and Vista and into the bug thread
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89969
Yes, but to start a campaign you have to do the following steps:
    Delete the map.rwm file here:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\DLV_ext\data\world\maps\base
Your path after VirtualStore may vary if you used other than the default install path.

As per these directions I can't find any map.rwm file at the location listed. The only 2 things in the VirtualStore are completely unrelated ie. HP and Adobe files (should I be seeing the full list of contents within my regular programs files?) so I left everything alone...it seems to crash right after the magyars turn as previously reported by myself and another Vista user within the Bug Report thread so this shared experience denotes a common fault. I just wish I knew what it was.

P.S. I am not seeing a "BIN" file at all within the root DVL_ext data directory...

Well, I have Vista Ultimate and I can't get the game to even start. Hoping Europa might be different.. well, when I start it it says something about Kingdoms not being a valid batch file or something..

I had DLV loaded on my new PC, which is Vista, and was getting the CTDs, especially during the rebel AI turn. As a test, I reloaded my older win2000 Pro PC with MTW2, SS 6.1 and DLV 5.73, exactly the same as my "production" rig. I'm on year 1251, and no CTD, so I would say that it's almost definitely a Vista issue. Sucks for me, casue DLV runs like slow crap on my 2000 pro PC, but SS and vanilla run fine, maybe much higher resource requirements.

Im running Vista 64 ultimate and I do think that DLV is a little unstable when putting these 2 together. I have tried various ways to prevent DLV CTD's. My main problem has been CTD's on the AI end turn. Some ideas worked only for a short time, like killing off heretics and other AI characters or armies. Doing this just delayed the CTD's by several turns and was also impossible to predict the result. I tried Lord Willy's solution of deleting all and only the string.bin files in

    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II TotalWar\DLV_ext\data\text

deleting these files does seem to work. I have had success with my latest saved campaign but not with older ones. When I do get a CTD I go and delete these files again and all is fine (yes the string.bin files do regenerate).

    Thanks Willy.

While none of the other fixes seem to work this is spot on...I deleted the BIN files and all works fine, for awhile atleast. They do regenerate themselves and then I start getting CTDs again, I go back and delete them and again all is well. Is there a way to permanemtly delete these BIN files and keep them from regenerating?

Im unsure if there is a way to prevent these files regenerating but it would be nice to see which BIN file is the one responsibe. It would take along time to wait for a crash and then delete each individual file one by one to find the culprit. Its worth a try so I will slow start testing it. I do think the bin file regeneration maybe necessary for the game to run so stopping them from regenerating may result in the game not starting at all. If anyone has more info on this it would be appreciated to find the actual source of the issue.

i dont have a DLV folder in the directory you speak of here. i suppose I have to run the game first to get these files so I can delete them and continue playing. so, hehe, i'll get to that bridge i hope.
