    Default Difference in the game

Has anyone felt a major difference in the battles from Rome: Total War and Medieval II: Total War? My cavalry seems to be so slow and never listening to my commands. Its also annoying when your doing a siege and you tell your men to attack an enemy unit and they will back off with only a few men actually fighting? It also has a very different building aspects and most of it gets my confused quite easily. Any of you have a hard time to transfer from Rome to Medievall II?

Medieval's been out for a while now, I think most of the people on this forum would have ajusted by now.

No I got the game last month, so no.

The biggest thing to get used to was the difference in cavalry strength, like the other people said. In Rome I could rout a couple units of archers with my general, who wasn't even that upgraded. Now in Med2, a couple units of archers can put my well equipped general to flight. But I quickly got used to the stunning backgrounds and lighting effects. Really cool to watch.

Just asking how it felt when they first got their hands on the game and stepped into the battlefield only to find a different movements and so fourth.

M2TW seemed about one level harder than RTW battle difficulty. Also, the horse do run more slowly in relation to infantry than they did in RTW. Also, some horses will straggle after they get to the 'tired' state. I think this is on purpose, to reduce the effectiveness of the cheap trick I used in RTW: of running cav around the map and resting in corners, until infantry got exhausted chasing them, then turn and rout the exhausted troops.

The "first row, only, attack!" thing I think is a bug. Happens to all of us.

I've just started playing medieval after years of rome and I've transferred really easily, everything feels much more real.

Indeed, Rome cav was waaaaaaaaaaay too good. I could go around with a half stack of cav and whoop every faction with ease... I like the MTW cav, the charge is still really powerful, but lining it up is more difficult and they are less responsive.

Yeah, Rome's cavalry was way overpowered. You could run them along the edge of the map the entire battle and they would never get tired. I could easily destroy enemy fullstack armies in Rome with only 1/3 of a stack of heavy cav with a frontal charge ( a few elephants thrown in doesn't hurt either). Medieval 2's cav is much better ( in terms of accuracy).

cavalry is actually much potentially stronger in mtw2 than in rtw, they are just more finicky. you have to actually bother to position them and get the correct distance and good clear path to land a decent charge, but when you do, its absolutely devastating. It takes a little getting used to and it adds an extra sparkle to tactics.the first row charge and other glitches basically happen when you fail to move your army with a good amount of order. Just try to avoid stanted and sideways charges, avoid rushing your charges, let your units find the correct distance, etc. Maintaining good order in yr army is more important here than it was in rtw.

I'm getting used to Cavalry now however I'm still very annoyed at the response my dismounted units do, especially in Sieges. Whenever I have a few units fighting the enemy inside the city or castle they all back off, I actually have to click passed the enemy to a clear spot for them to start running to the enemy, and then I have to reclick on the enemy, usually doing it with all my footmen units. Also I think the Priests are very confusing in my opinion, I still don't understand how to increase their levels. (cant remember them atm) Though the graphics do give a major boost to the game and makes it more enjoyable, I still cant believe I can run the game on MAX everything (Huge Armies, Very High graphics etc) on a Laptop which is three years old.

Did most of you start off with RTW, Shogun, Medieval or Medieval II? I think if you've gotten used to RTW alot more and then all of a sudden you buy M2 it gets a little fustrating at the start.
