CTD when i try to start new campaign

First off I read the two tech help stickies that probably apply to this but there was so much in there I wasnt sure where to start.

I just got a vista comp and I installed RTW vanilla with the 1.5 patch and then copied the folder and pasted it in another location (outside the program files folder). I then installed BI in the first copy and EB in the 2nd copy. This all went smoothly. I ran EB and savored the awesomeness of the intro music for about half a min and then went to go start a campaign. I clicked my faction and clicked start. I get a CTD. I try a couple more times and get the same results. I ran the vanilla to make sure it wasnt a RTW problem and that game ran fine. I reinstalled EB and the same thing happened. Any suggestions?

It may be something to do with installing into program files. Even if you copy the folder elsewhere vista may still muck it up. I would suggest uninstalling RTW and reinstalling it somewhere other than program files from the off, rather than installing it pf and then copying it elsewhere.

Ah im getting this reoccurring error trying to install RTW. I think its a vista problem. Idk if u can help me or not but if u can that would be great.

ok i was finally able to rig RTW vanila to work and it it has been installed outside the program files folder. However the problem hasnt changed. I do think this is a vista issue however. Checking the total war eras tech forum there are several instances where RTR and MTW have experienced the same exact problem. But i havnt found any clear advice thru there either.

dont mean to sound pushy but ive been dying to play this game for over a week now. Anyone have any more ideas?

I have exactly the same problem. I don't know what to do. I think it can be a vista issue, because I had no problem with XP, but... I want to play this mod!!

I have searched in the forum, it's sounds like many other peoples have this problem, and I don't understand always the various paths to solve this bug... if it is possible. Because i'm not an english speaker (as you surely have noticed).

ps: on this forum, I've seen that the campaign-start-ctd could be caused by an absence of map.rwm in data/campaign/base folder. But I have map.rwm folder and I still can't play. I can play historical or custom battle but no campaign.
I don't understand why I didn't have any problem with XP and why I can't play with vista. It's so sad...

oh yea that thing, i turned that thing off the first day i got the computer. it annoyed the hel out of me

its in the security preferences i forget exactly how. If ur still having trouble finding it ill walk u thru. im going to have to check out the map.rwm thingy

Could you give me the path to disable UAC? It's indeed very annoying.

I just looked to see if my map.rwm is there and it is. I hope the problem is something simple were all missing.

To turn off the UAC go to your control panel and click on the Windows Security Center. It might be listed under simply "Security Center". Click on where it says "Other Security Settings". Two things should drop down and you should see User Account Control at the bottom where there is a button to turn it off. Once you click that it will probably bother you about why u shouldnt turn it off but it will finally be off. Let me know if this helps

I've the answer! And i can now play an EB campaign!
Here is the way: click right on EB folder. Then go to properties. In properties, go to security. Here, you should give to the PC-users total control on the files. That will allow you to play a campaign. Many problem with vista are caused by the administrative rights: you can't make what you want with your own files. You should give you total control over the folder to be allowed to change the files.

hmm according to my security properties everyone already has full control. Explain one more time what u did
