Why not understanding Orthodox Judaism lead to erred Christianity
(Disclaimer: Pardon the Topic line, I meant "leads to erred Christianity.")
Hello all,
I am of the pursuasion that without understanding an Orthodox Jewish perspective of the "Old Testament" or Tanach, in Hebrew, that Christianity cannot and will not reflect either God or Jesus correctly.
Ex. When Jesus said "What you loose on earth shall have been loosed in Heaven and what you bind on earth shall have been bound in Heaven."
(Literal Greek rendition by the way.)
This was spoken to his apostles NOT the Pharisees, Saducees, Samaritans nor Zealots.
In the time of Jesus, according to the Talmud (Jerusalem, I believe) "Loosing" meant that anything not expressly forbidden in the Torah (1st five books of Moses) was o.k. to do, say, speak or think about by the concurrence of the Sanhedrin, while "Binding" meant that anything that wasn't expressly negative or one was told not to do in the Torah, meant to not do it by the concurring Sanhedrin. It also meant that whatever good thing was not expressly talked about in the Torah was given the o.k. to do by the Sanhedrin as well.
So we see something vitally important:
Jesus understood what Jewish tradition said (Vis a Vis the Sanhedrin and Mishnah) and established a DIFFERENT order in establishing HIS church, who are people in whom God dwells.
It is vitally important that whenever ANYONE reads the "New Testament" one should understand these things lest a skewed version of Christianity is promulgated, as we see with the umpteen thousands of "Christian" sects!
