Default How to manage money in 355AD as Julian

Is there any way to stop yourself from being bankrupt in 355AD campaign without having to disband the army? My coffer goes down to -50000 within 3 turns of the campaign, but if I disband the field armies I have no way of stopping the Franks and the Alamannis.

The short answer is no. Only thru conquest will you ultimately succeed. You must protect the army at all costs.

Like in reality. There was no time to recruit reinforcements. especialy during that period of the empire.

I understand, but I have one more question. Whenever I'm fighting against the Franks, I'm losing a lot of men against their throwing axes. One volley of them takes more than 30 heavy infantry in a instant. Are they supposed to be that powerful?

Yes, the heavy throwing axe (fransica) was deadly. Best try to absorb that charge with more "expendible" troops.

You financial coffers are in the east, upgrade the cities there, those in Greece, Asia Minor, Syria and Egypt. All those cities that have a Governor make tax on very high, where not financial, off course watch for unrest. Disband all heavy cavalry in the west, Cilinbari, Cataphracts , Candidati etc, use the Promoti, Auxillia and Scutari. plus FM. In my campaign I defeated both the Franks and Alemanni, but stopped from conquering their lands apart from Argentoratum, which I renamed in honour to the Emperor, Juliana Flavia. In a few turns your economy will recover and you will be able to built barracks and restore the limes.

Deploy your legions in straight lines, Generally I take 10 units, so 5 in front, 5 behind. Archers are deployed behind the second line, so are the Promoti and Scutarii, arrange them so that enemy units are within missile range when they hit your front line, so the gap between first and second line must be at least half unit wide. place all heavy cavalry on the rear, Do not scirmish with cavalry, instead use the lighter troops available. I recommend to take 4 light infantry units, 2 are placed behind the legions. Dont forget to disable the fire at will to the first line, deploy them in shield wall and on guard. The second line should be given the fire at will command and on guard too. Hold the line, unleash hell and outflank them with you cavalry.

    Cheers.
