Default I know this may be redundant but...

I know I am using a sterotype asking about a sterotype but...

Why do Americans for the most part act so deffensivley about American jokes , if I make a French or a German or a British joke I usually dont get mauled , but if I make an American joke I get pinned as an American hater , but I like America....

Americans tend to be proud of their country, despite its flaws. Europeans on the other hand..

Right, because that quality is unique to Americans? Gimme a break. American Exceptionalism my BUM.

    @OP

Americans are perhaps the most hyper-nationalistic people to ever grace this planet. They also have a very short history. Europeans and many other peoples have millenia old cultures & civilizations so Americans may feel a bit insecure and overcompensate with excessive nationalism and by killing brown people.

Of course this is only true for about 50% of America.

In many Euro posters' jokes there can be detected the faintest traces of haughty contempt. America was founded by people who were sick and tired of being looked down upon by snooty aristocrats, and their descendants still react violently when they sense the same vibe that pissed off their ancestors.

Anybody see that episode of Top Gear where Clarkson May and Hammond tried to drive through Alabama with contentious political and cultural statements daubed over their cars in fluorescent paint?

    Eye opening.

That was shocking yet so so funny. I never knew having 'GAY PRIDE' and 'NASCAR SUCKS' painted onto a fluorecent pink car could cause such anger in rural Alabama. We just dont get that in Europe

Well its not really "eye opening" I mean it's hardly representative of how 99% of Americans would react to such taunting. Which is what it was - taunting. If someone came into where I lived and made fun of my values (no matter of how archaic they are) I wouldn't be to happy either. Try painting "Muhammad sucks donkey balls" in Urdu on your car and go for a drive in Karachi (rather liberal city in Pakistan). :

I shall put more effort then, into making clear that I think, that I as a european tower head and shoulder over all you americans, in every aspect possibly imaginable...except maybe height.
    "...faintest traces of haughty contempt"....Pfff....

Bah, seriously you americans are truly a "high maintenance"-lot:"Bohoo, nobody loves me, everybody hates me and thinks I'm stupid...but I'll show ya...":
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Seriously people, you can be happy that at least you get a much wider variety of jokes you end up at the butt of, than most of us europeans. How often do you think, I hear Nazi jokes (mostly the same one, over and over again, actually) and have to laugh, or I'm the grumpy, humourless german (that I am) ?

The authors of the harshest critics and lowest jokes are american citizens in 8/10 cases anyway, so grow up already.

Na, the best part of that epsidoe was that the slogan that offended the Alabamans the most, was not "Gay Pride" it was, "Country and Western Sucks!"

    Nascar does suck...

But anyway I think it's because from early on American kids are taught that their country is the best, richest and most free nation in the world. Whether it is true or not doesn't matter, that's what I was told on a daily basis.

Its almost the opposite in the UK but the government seem to be wanting kids to do 'citizenship' lessons in some sort of attempt to try and make us proud and happy citizens. We dont get taught very much about the British Empire (Well I went to several schools and it wasnt taught), its as though we are ashamed of it. Or we get told that Britian was very naughty to go around trading more slaves from Africa then any other western nation. Or we were rather clumsy to allow millions of natives do die of disease and starvation blah blah blah

Yes, that's how the kids are taught in schools.
