Default Huge mosque stirs protests in Cologne

Today ,in Cologne ,will be a hot day, with protests against a construction of one of Europe's biggest mosques,in the most catholic city in Germany.
Note ,the catholic church will support a demonstration, against the protests.:hmmm:

What about build a Christian cathedral in Mecca close to Al Masjid Al Haram. It will be possible or the tolerance and the multiculturalism just have one way?

If they bought the land, and its properly zoned they should be allowed to build the Mosque. Those protesters have no right to say they can't and if they try it is an attack on democracy and freedom.

Hear Hear. I thought that freedom of worship and property rights were fundamental freedoms in the EU. We have Catholic Cathedrals in my predominantly Protestant country, but you don't see me outside Westminster Cathedral demanding it be brought down.

I thought do have a right under freedom of speech to peacfully protest and say your mind, even if it is stupid and racist.

I meant the government has no right to say they can't. Was writing something else and changed my mind and didn't delete far enough.

It's not really an Issue in my mind... but whatever. Once the mosque is built, I don't think anyone will care that it's there.

Its quite obvious that a mosque dwarfing Cologne Cathedral will be widely seen, and used politically, as a symbol of foreign influence in home affairs. Its a sensitive issue that is not as black and white as 'they have the right' and 'they don't have the right'.

Pfft..... all our sacred buildings are dwarfed by the Temples of Mammon by a wide margin. I cannot say that my faith in God has been supplanted by the worship of money.

    This is old news.

Muslims are a favorite target of the Neo-Nazis in Germany, since they can't harass Jews.

Edit: Their was a Mosques of similar built in other parts of Germany, why haven't they protested them?

Excellent point. They may have the right, legally, but that doesn't mean they can't be protested for going to a Christian country and trying to build a Mosque in order to overshadow than the country's own old venerable cathedral. That's a clear affront. Plus, it's not just a single exception but one of a long string of clear and brute "in your face" Islamic affronts to Europeans, within their own countries. Let's have some friggin respect. McDonalds has its own flag, but it always flies the US flag higher.

    How is it foreign?

As far as I know there are Muslims in Germany you know who are German citizens.

There is a pretty big Mosque here and the Muslims haven't taken control of the country and established a Caliphate yet.

Ooh. That would actually look very nice. A lot better than the gaudy blobs of Moroccan architecture that most mosques resemble.

I don't see how anybody could possibly be against this.

For starter's Cologne is not a Gothic city anymore, most of its old buildings were destroyed in WW2. Now it is a pretty modern looking city and that is the design the mosque is being modeled after. It will fit into the city's architecture AND will finally give an adequate home to the city's practicing Muslims.

Bringing up Churches in Saudi Arabia is a red herring. The West criticizes them for religious intolerance all the time, so in return we should stoop to their level?

"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

Cologne is catolic city with millenium old christian tradition. Muslims are missusing rights they have. I would like to see how would muslims react if great cathedral, bigger than any mosque is being constructed in Tehran for example.
