I'm looking to try a muslim faction, those I've taken into consideration are the Khwarezmian Empire (ss faction, persians/turks underneath the mongolians), The Turks or the Fatimids (egypt). I don't want to be moors, cause of the location.

if vanilla I would say Turks

Turks are the best in both SS 6.1 as in vanilla. Their main drawback in vanilla was their position because they were strucken by Mongols first and by Timurids later.In Stainless Steel Khwarizmians are there as livin shield for those invasions. You start with relatively weak armies but can later recruit some of the best units: ranged- janissary archers, heavy infantry- janissaries, cavalry-quapakulu. In addition you have good hybrid infantry-ottoman infantry ( may be used as excellent archers as well as good mellee infantry). Oh, I forgot: they have absolutely the best artillery units.
You also forgot muskets, MUSKETS!
And Naffatun.

But Egypt is cooler becasue they get three moons.

A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.
A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."
I am playing SS 6.1 with some submods, nothing special, sstc crimson tide. Thanks for the answers, think I'm going for Turks. Too bad the Khwarezmians have such a crappy isolated location up in the mountains, else I'd choose them.

I dont really like SS. But if you like it, Turks are probably the best Muslim faction, though id suggest BC if you want the best Muslim experience.

Personally i believe that muslim factions are powerful...They have units , a capable palyer transform them to deadly weapons againsts christians and orthodox..

The Turks because of:
1- Janissary Heavy Infantry
2- Monster Bombard
3- Janissary Archers
4- Janissary Musketteers
For Vanilla (original) Medieval II: Total War, I would have to suggest the Moors.
Here's a few reasons why:
I. They have decent gunpowder units later on.
II. Their lands are not based in the Middle East, at least at the start, and it's possible to avoid conflict with the dreaded Mongolian and Timurid hordes.
III. The Iberian Peninsula is relatively easy to take over, if you hurry to weaken the Spanish and later Portuguese armies (try not to get in war with both of them!).
IV. France will be more of a challenge for you to conquer, but their lands are pretty wealthy, and are welcome additions to your empire. Your ancestors tried to take France before . . . now you will attempt so again!
i would say the mongols there religion is muslim. and thy start out with 4 armies.![]()

Turks for all the reasons explaned above. In vanilla they are accually quite a challenge to play due to the Mongols.
