I CANT GET PAST 6840!!!!!!!

OK guys i need some help before i through my pc out the window ,,

to help my total war addiction i thought that my old ass pc needed a break last month,,i was sick of the lag and i really wanted to get huge scale battle's in rtw, mtw2 going , so i set about building a new one heres the specs

OLD ASS PC (built in 2000)

radeon 9600 (215bit)
1.5gb ram
110 gb hard drive
e-processor such and such cant remember but it was one of those really old ones,,, probably made out of wood that could only mange word doc's

on my old pc ,,in rome total war the unit limit was about 6400 on the field the came the very bad lag


NEW ASS PC (built 2 weeks ago) (cost 900 to build)
his 3870x2 (1gb)
4g.b ram
750gb hard drive
intel core quad 6600 (3.3ghz)

and guess what unit limit 6400 on the field then comes the lag ,,, WHAT THE HELL UP WITH THAT,, it plays oblivion , call of duty 4,, crysis ,, all on high spec but rtw ,, ON huge unit scale ,,, NO CHANCE ,,,, could someone please give me some advice,,, apart from put my new pc through the window,,, thank you stephen

You do realize that your pc will have to calculate individual actions for every single guy on the battlefield. With detailed animation? If you have shadows, then it will have to calculate every shadow for every soldier.
Stuff like that may not look as pretty as CoD4 but it eats memory.

Perhaps you should go ask in the Garage forums, they have more specialists in computers and stuff like that.

I tried playing battles maxed up on huge scale in Rome and I was met with crippling lag. Turning off grass and setting unit detail down a level solved this, but my computer can still play Med2 on large scale maxed up to the extreme. So, even though Rome is older 6000+ men is still a huge amount for the computer to work with. Like what Selifator said.

I just found it very weird that my old pc (1.6ghz,513gb,9600radeon) PC could handle the same amount of people in rtw as my new one.

well i overclocked my processor from 4x 2.4ghz ,, to 4x 3.6ghz still the same warning when i hit about 6-7000 men ,,,

like i can play with 15,000 men in mtw2 with no sign of a lag ,,,

so is this just a processor issue that rtw only is using one of the cocres ,,, thanks for your advice guys.

This is vanilla RTW and vanilla M2TW?

I read somewhere a while ago that although the skins in M2TW look nice and pretty they are not very complex skins. This could be one reason why M2TW runs better than RTW on your set up.
