    Default WWIII

Yes, a mod, is posting a whacked out thread about Armagedon (ok, but in modern terms if we have another world war it will be beyond both anything weve seen before and catastrophic.

So, are we, seriously, inching closer to such a conflict? I pray we are not. I have no hard feelings to anyone outside Montana. Heck. I grew up around the world. I have some empathy and nothing but good will to others. But, if taken to the brink, I will stand up and support the United States of America. We arent perfect but we have been on the positive end of history more times than not. Nothing anyone can say would convince me otherwise.

Which makes me faithfully believe we can work this stuff out. Theres no reason to poke our fingers in eachothers eyes.

We need a modern day Kennedy and Gorbachev on both ends. Maybe Im being paranoid. But I seriously see some anamosity, resentment, and otherwise hard feelings between our two nations. Ive rooted for Russia since, well, Novgorad. What an amazing history. We can work this out. The only other place people who visit Montana from Europe can relate to is the Russian Steppes. Be proud. Peace and good will.

    An American,

Faithfully under the patronage of the fallen yet rather amiable Octavian.

I don't know about Kennedy. Gorbachev laughed loudly, saying that Kennedy was quite white after they finished talking, and that he was an "amateur."

But that doesn't really matter, I'm just nitpicking. I do agree with you, we do need an honest meeting. I pray that nothing ever happens, a third World War would mean the death of our race as we know it.

In what alternate universe do you have Gorbachev and John Kennedy chatting?

I will assume you meant Khrushchev.

It's an honest mistake. Hell, half the Russian names are ridiculously similar.

Does anyone really believe that the cold war was over? No, it just took a break. Now, its back on. Proxy wars/arms sales/ and hostile stares across the aisle in the UN.

The Cold War is most certainly not over. One merely needs to look at the two Koreas to see that.

I, for one, am bored of this peace. We need a good bigass war. You can tell we have had too much peace when everyone's moving to 'small modern professional armies', because the only wars those armies can fight are small modern professional wars. They can't fight a big ass war like WW3.

By the same logic we shouldn't have air travel, or computers, or any other modern conveniences because humanity never had them before?

Wars are becoming outdated in this ever shrinking world. And in the very near future they will be obsolete.

technology is evolution mikelus it is part of nature. Humans, being gifted with a lot more benefits than the average animal (hands etc.. an apparently better brain etc) have turned evolution onto material matters where the rest of the animal kingdom adapts in other ways (thats not to say the human race hasnt evolved physically etc because we obviously have)

I would say ur comparison isnt that great to make the argument. Evolution is as part of nature as conflict is. Of course we can minimise conflict, but we cannot eradicate it completely (from 2 children fighting right up to empires colliding.. )

That statement alone is nuttier than the topic itself. Maybe not nutty, but ignorant.

You should stand up for your country on the basis that you owe allegiance to it, you shouldn't have to say more.

But to say that the US has been on the positive end of history---you're overstepping the line by a mile. Slavery, countless indigenous genocides, contemporary support for bloodshed in smaller countries, imperialism in Cuba, the Philippines, and beyond, etc...the list of American transgressions is so long, I don't think even the Soviets could compete. The US was at certain points of its history an empire, and still is to some extent (barring modern labels). And no empire is a nice one.

I'm not saying that America is some big evil cesspool, any crime committed by our country was not our personal crimes. And like any nation of people, Americans had to kill in order to eat and survive. Its nature.

Sorry for the long moral essay, but your statement was hella ignorant.

If it really was a true World War, I'd have to see why were were fighting before I'd become a soldier.

I wouldn't have fought for the First World War, sorry.

The First World War did do some good. It destroyed the last Caliphate (The Ottoman Empire).

u reckon? i personally believe the first and second world wars to be the biggest disaster in human history. (the first should never have happened, and the second would never have happened had the first not...)

also saying that with europe in mind; it ruined europe for the forseeable future (and we're still feeling the effects of it today)
