Very annoying CTD issue

Well, I've never had trouble with RS before but it seems to have started now.

Suddenly when pressing end of turn in 511 AUC, I got a CTD.

It went like this: pressed end turn, macedonia sieged 3 of my cities, the seleucids were supposed to come next and then, bang, game crahes to desktop. Havent changed anything or so.

I've tried everything:

-not moving my armies a certain way
-not letting macedonia siege me (destroying their armies with "sallies" before)
-not taking carthage in that turn
-letting my cities unprotected so macedonia could take them without any siege
-combine some of the above

Nothing worked. For some obscure reason it worked when doing absolutely nothing though - as in, move no armies, dont do anything. However, that is very annoying and doesnt really fix the problem.

Have you got a save game from a previous turn??

That all i can think of considering you seem to have tried everything else

Is this a 1.5a game that you're playing or 1.5b? I'm asking what version it was started under not which version you are currently playing under.

It is 1.5b, I downloaded and installed it and it says "v1.5b" in the main menu.

Anyway, I managed to fix it now - still, I have no freaking idea what caused and how I actually avoided it. For some reason some saves worked but then stopped working when I kept on playing to find out what caused the CTDs (as in, save, check if it CTDs when I end turn, no it didnt CTD, reload save, do another action etc. however, for some reason even saves that didnt use to ctd ctd'd then) and eventually only a pretty early save from 510 AUC (I was at 511 when the CTD happened) worked.

I had to refrain from doing anything in summer 511 though, just end turn again and it worked. After that I could do everything without any problems or CTDs. Still, cost me plenty of hours alltogether...

If anyone had any idea what caused it that'd be cool anyway as I dont want that stuff to happen again.

I was asking if the game was an old 1.5a game you were playing (either without RS patched to 1.5b or with RS patched to 1.5b), as there's a CTD from 1.5a that can't be fixed without starting a new 1.5b campaign. If that isn't the problem, then it sounds like a corrupt save game. Make sure you have autosave turned off.

autosave is turned off for 100% and no, it isnt an old 1.5a game. I wasnt even around the RS forums during the 1.5a times

I never played unpatched RS (read: without 1.5b)

Thanks for your help anyway. Yeah, maybe it was a corrupt save game. Dunno how tho, Ive been playing RS for some days already and I didnt have any trouble nor do I have any now. It simply happened when I did something in 511 AUC during the seleucid's turn - no idea why tho.

There are ways to get more information on what is causing the CTD.

Load the game.
In game toggle fow off

Press end turn and watch the action. Take note of what characters are moving around and try and spot what happens immediately prior to the CTD.

I used to use FRAPS to record a movie of what was going on - I paid the one-off license fee. However, for some reason (it may be RTW 1.5 or RTW BI 1.6) I can no longer view the movies as they become corrupt.
