Default malazan books of the fallen

    has anyone read this series??

I suppose its "epic fantasy" but the author was a working archaeologist and anthropologist so his books have a back drop of a 300000 year history, with all kinds of wierd magic and strange cultures-- either way if this sort of thing is your bag you should check it out.

    author is steven erikson

I'm now at part 4 and it's really good

part 1 was a bit difficult the first time I read it (no native english speaker) but I found it very satisfying the secont time I took it up

part 2 was really, really good

And part 3, I found part 3 perhaps the best book I had ever te pleasure of reading, such a characters, so much tension and a climax as big as you've never seen before.

part 4 I found a bit less then 3 but I readed parts 2, 3 and 4 in a row so maybe it was that but I still thought it pretty good.

All in all I it's my number 1 fantasy series at this moment scince george rr martin seems to be doing 5 years per book

I finished the fourth book earlier this week.
    Absolutely loved them.

I must say though, the first thus far stands as the weakest by quite a way - it's still enjoyable, but the others (particularly 2&4) far outshine it. Possibly this is simply due to Erikson gaining skill as a writer (part 1 being written some time before the others, I believe..)

Not the most eloquent endorsement for the Book of the Fallen, but definitely a heartfelt one.

Then I weighed him I said, “Holy ****!” because he weighs 900,000,000,000,000,000 tons. That amazing weight made me say the “S” word.

I'm now close to finishing Toll the Hounds (part 8 or so) and it's by far the most epic series I've ever read. I never encountered a writer who came even close to writing 1200 pages a year and not declining in quality.

yeah toll the hounds was a mighty tome; but karsa orlong the elemental of freedom is the mightiest character from any book ever--- I just love the discussions between the various ancient characters the most--- like trull and onrack; toc and tool ; icarium and mappo --- blah I really loved all the characters in his books; they are pretty hefty and I am still waiting for some goddamn justice for korbolo dom and rallick:X

I am extremely glad to see people reading these books, I think they are really a step above others of the type.
