    Default Upgrading to Citadels?

Before I ask the question, I have to commend the MOD team. I have played many hours of SS and BC, which I love. I have to say I enjoy the flavor of this MOD, the use of knights etc. is great.

Now to the question.... (SV 3.0)

How do you upgrade your castles to fortresses and then to citadels? I have built every building and population. I see some starting citadels with only 6k pop. Are there only a few citadels in the campiegn or am I just way off mark. I apologize if this has been asked and answered before I checked but could not find it. Again, thanks for delivering what is turning out to be my favortite MOD!

Higher Castles (and other higher stone constructions):

    Generally
    1. needs buildings: earthen ware and brickshop

    Special (military buildings)
    2. needs Stronghold Right
    3. only in certain regions possible

Check the building browser per region.

Where can I find the regions it is possible? I am not sure what the "building browser" is.

I open a similar thread to this a few days ago.

I guess you need the brickshop in certain places, plus population...that's what Sicilian Vespers said.

I agree--it's hard to tell what allows you to upgrade cities and castles. I get more than enough population, but something is missing. The building browser does not help a whole lot. It's a little button on the bottom of the city/castle detail display when you click on a city/castle.

I'm just playing it by ear; I seem to be doing OK without this precise knowledge of when I can upgrade my settlements.

If you check the descr_regions file, there is a hidden_resource called "main" I believe - only settlements with that HR can build citadels.

The other part to the question is how do you go from from Fortress to Citadel? It seems that I have built every possible build, but cannot upgrade past Fortress in some places.

That might have to do with population in the city...you might have to wait until you recha certain limit...

It could be that the region you are trying to build it in doesn't have the hidden resource - if that's teh case you are SOL. I had the problem playing as England. Nottingham couldn't go past fortress because it didn't have "main" as the HR.

Is there anyway to add the "main" hidden resource or is that coded in the map. I ask because I have no modding skillz

I think this is bugged because in my early era campaign I have all the building requirements, the population requirements and I have found out which settlements have the "main" distinction and it is still impossible to upgrade past a fortress. The AI has not upgraded any fortresses to citadels either and I am about two hundred turns past the end of the early campaign. This mod is awesome and hopefully this will get straightened out. :hmmm:

hmmm...interesting. That is unfortunate if true.

Did you try deleting your map.rwm file? Or did you make any changes?

I have not made any changes. I could try deleting the map.rwm file and see if that works. I wonder if this happens in any other campaigns such as the high era or late era.

I have been experimenting with some of the diffent era' and I have found that only those Citadels which start the scenario as such can become them. Take Nottingham as an example, if it starts the scenario as a citadel great. If it does not, now matter how much population it has it cannot become a citadel. I don't know if this is a bug or not. Just looking for some clarity.:hmmm:

Its very odd that this is happening. I can't think of any reasons why this would be the case. Perplexing . . . :hmmm:
