Default Norwegian government tries to ban online gambling

The current government of Norway has had a huge crackdown on all sorts of gambling, with the 2007 ban of all slot machines they now want to follow up with an all out ban on money transfers to any gambling related sites. Not based in Norway.

(I know the link is old, but the parliament and the culture minister is talking about it again)

Important step in order to protect the people or a huge step on the civil liberties of Norwegians?

I guess the labor party really doesn’t want to get reelected, way to push even more voters over to the retard party. (AKA progress party)

uh oh, looks like the weeges found a way people can get rich and they want to destroy it.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

JP226, I get it you never been to a casino? or anything with gambling? xD Because Gambling bussiness certanly doesn't make ordinary people rich, it makes only the owners rich.

But yeah, it might be a little harsh to ban it. Some people acutally enjoy it. Ban Cigarettes instead, much more of a public health problem, and will certainly get you as unpopular

Well, banning does not mean it disappears -- just more money to be made on the illegal side of things. Right up there with booze, tobacco, and drug smuggling as well as prostiution. Maybe it is a combination of know-it-alls in league with others getting kickbacks from organized crime.

Indeed it can still be found in the underground, but if there is one thing Norway doesn’t need its more organized crime. Secondly the fact that it is made illegal is a step on our civil liberties, but as I said it seems the labor party has an insane fear of being reelected.

Well, the idea is good in principal. Gambling is a cause of a lot of poverty and problems - it screws up millions of peoples lives. The only people that get rich from gambling are the owners and sometimes, the very good card players. Slot machines and roulettes etc. are all made so that you can't win overall.

No, all gambling is strictly prohibited even in you own house. The law is enforced with and iron hand to the point that the police will raid private parties where friends are playing poker for pocket change (not kidding)

Oh, come on dude. Chances of cops raiding your home on suspicion of poker-play is like 1 in a 1000, yeah it's illegal but it isn't very strictly enforced.

Lol. And this is the country Norge and Haakon were afraid that it would end up under Islamic or Communist freedom-less tyranny.

It says that it would be banning using foriegn-based sites for on-line gambling.... sounds like they simply want a bigger piece of the pie.

While I agree that raiding people's houses is pretty OTT, I stand by that closing down casinos is the right idea!

Norway is pretty fed up. Anyone who says it’s the best place in the world to live, has obviously never lived here
