    Default SPQR Campaign Advice

    I just started playing the SPQR campaign.

    But first, I have to say Thanks to czePowerslave for making a guide on how to install the SPQR mod.

    OK back to the topic, I was wondering if any1 could give me some advice on the Romans Campaign? Because Carthage has been attacking me from the south of Italy.

    take your two of your starting legions and crush Hannibal

    use your third starting legion to defended against the Gauls, and then focus on economy until you are ready to start making armies

    attack Carthage in southern Italy then take back Sicily, since you will have most likely have lost it.

    then attack Greece you will gain massive amounts of cash from Greece

    once you take Greece hit Asia-Minor you will get lots of cash from them too

    Now either attack Carthage or Iberia, or both if you have the money and man power to do it

    once you have Iberia is when you attack Gaul hit them from Iberia and push upward into France

    oh and what ever you do avoid fighting Germania until you have at least Republican Legions

    this should take you a long time, but i find it is the most effective way to set up your empire

    hope this helps

    AVE!!

    General doesn't forget the fight with Carthago is inevitable, you will face the fearsome elephants. If that happens it is prepared.

    My experienced that the only weapon against elephants are velites troops.
    I would suggest focussing with both velites units on only one elephant unit ( if there are more than one ). You should be able to decimate them quickly.
    If they flee spent your last ammo on the next elephant units.
    You should support your Velites units by let your pinceps and hastati also fire on the elephants ( of course almost every hastati unit will be in close combat fights, so you just have the princeps ). Disable fire at will to save their ammo of your velites.

    Remember again, don't put your velites onto the mode "fire at will". Keep their ammo in reserve and allways keep an eye on enemy elephans' moves during battle. If elephans on the left flank, put your velites units on your left flank as well. And the main stuff is - don't miss the eleph charge and hit! Throw the javelins during their enough approach where your missiles troops can reach them. if you miss that chance and give elehans make a huge mess in your army and substantial moral drop.... And their men's morals in drop, you with certainty will lose the battle. No there is anything else to do. You be prepared.!!

    Also for help with defeating Hannibal move your starting army under the Quintus the first turn right next to Hannibal in the North-western square

    the one like this:

    QXX
    XHX
    XXX

    Q= Quintus
    H= Hannibal

    That is a hill you can defend on and will help you defeat hime easily.

    If i send 2 of my armys to crush Hanibal the gauls take 3 of my citys, the greeks take my city in Sicily, and my economy goes down.

    Hannibal and the carthaginians in italie :

    take the garrison out of the city in sicily, destroy all buildings in the city that is located on sicily (it will give you some extra money) and leave it for the greeks ore carthaginians, don' t worry about sicily. use the garrison that you are transporting from sicily to garrison capua (now you don' t need to recruit a new garrison) attack hannibal with quintus if you are in battle don' t forget to deselect the fire at will button on your valites becous thy need all there ammo to fire on the elephants. set your hastati and principes in fire at will mode (extra fire power to weaken your attacking enemy). afther defeating hannibal move your 2 armies to destry the mercenary armie and retake taras.

    Gauls :

    gauls are easy to defeat, check the tactics thread for some good tactics, when in battle use the shieldwall formation (klick the loose formation button you will see how thy get closer to each other) set your hastati and principes in fire at will mode for the extra damage. one gaul army will probebly attack genoa and an other one will be close by. what happend in my campaign was i destroyed one of the gaul armies that was siegen genua and the other army whent back to gaul terretory and would stay there for a few turns. intill it got reinforced by an other gaul army but at that point i refited my 2 legions that destroyed the carthaginians in italie and i moved them up north to fight the gauls.

    building :

    first try to biuld a lot of roads, traders and so on to set up your economy. thry building the pro consul building in capua as fast as possible. this will give you the chanse to build barraks to refit your legions that suffered loses from fighting hannibal.

    hope this will help. and enjoy SPQR
