1.5 update + Steam = crap? ;)

anyone have his Kingdoms game on steam rendered unloadable after the 1.5 update d/l on Steam? It starts for me (the game), select, say, the Britania campaign, and then you hear hard disc pagin for a bit, but the screen goes blank (dark) and stays that way...

anyone else have problems with this? Thanks in advance...

I did have the same problem a while back. I emailed Valve tech support and they said it was not their problem.

I found that if I started Steam by itself, let it do it's updates and display the ads for the new games, i could then go into the "games" menu and run Kingdoms from there.

If I ever tried to start it with Steam not running, it would do the same thing.

Also be sure to check your settings as it might have reset them to something that does not work with your hardware.

Luckily, a few patches to Steam itself fixed the problem for me.

I actually got it to work!!

what I did was use some of the steam tools to defrag the "game cache" and the "local files". when i fired it up, it worked!

that's the good news. the bad news is that after Playing Europa Barbarorum for as long as I did (it's a mod for RTW), the whole vanilla MTW2:K seemed so shallow to me.
