Default Games keep speeding up rapidly - technical issue

I didn't really know of a good title for the thread. The problem that I'm having is that when I play certain games (Painkiller, GTA Vice City, Rome: Total War, and several more) they speed up rapidly. It's strange, it is like on the TW games where you put the battles up to full speed except this is happening for many games. A short term solution is just to restart my PC, and straight from logging on just play the game. This works but having to restart everytime I want to change games is bloody annoying and my computer always has to have 5 minutes or so to initialise all the startup software such as antivirus and firewall. Some games such as The Sims 2 and Warcraft III will work anyway and don't suffer from this problem. I've updated all my drivers and windows updates but I've still got no idea what the problem is. Anyone had similiar experiences or know whats wrong with it?

start your game / go to desktop [alt+tab] / press ctrl + alt + del / go to processes / find your game / right click set affinity / untick cpu 1 so its just cpu 0.

I had that problem with San Andreas, my cars were going about 100mph at 30 ingame lol

If you have an AMD Dual-core processor, you probably need to download the Dual Core Optimizer from AMD's website.

Do the Intel dual cores suffer from the same problems as the AMD processors as far as the "benny hill effect" is concerned?

Perhaps, but it would not be a common problem. Sometimes I suffer from sudden drops in frames but I suspect that is my processor overheating, not anything else.
