Recrution limit and 300 spartans

Hello all,

I am playing XGM 5.7.22 as GCS with no sub mods and I noticed that I cant recruit any more perioikoi hoplites. I have about 8 units of them. I am not planning to recruit another but at least I want to be able to retrain them.

Maybe I am missing something here.Is there a limit on the units you can retrain on perioikoi? Does this apply to other units as well? If so which ones?

Also is it possible to make the number of soldiers in spartan royal guard from 100 to 300 as its historical accurate?

Only thing I can think of is that Perioici Hoplites are a pre marian reforms unit only so if the reforms have occurred they're not trainable anymore. You get perioici phalangites instead.

And sadly the royal guard unit can't be made any larger than 240men on huge unit sizes. That's a limit of the RTW engine.

I noticed this on 249 BC. I guess Marian reforms have occurred since I have armored general bodyguards,however, I have yet to receive any message about this reform.

Since I cant recruit perioikoi hoplites because they are obsolete how come I can recruit athenian hoplites? Shouldnt they be also obsolete?

Also I cant even recruit perioikoi phalangites.

afaik The marian reform message only appears when playing as Rome so you shouldn't see that message. Easiest way to check is send a spy to see if there are Legionaries running around. Athenian hoplites aren't pre marian only so you still get them, thats pretty much just an arbiratry design descision, I think.
but I'm not sure why you can't train perioici phalagites, they should be trainable in Sparta.
