    Icon9 My Vassal.....is broke?

I recently started a new campaign as Denmark and was quick to capture as many northern territories as I could. I effectively wiped The Norwegian's out apart from one settlement Eikundarsungd, (note: I'm using SS6.1) and offered them to be my vassal. They accepted. This was turn 20 or so. Since then they have been giving me large quantities of cash every turn. I was slightly puzzled as to why this may have been because they owned little else yet continually for 50 turns I received a healthy sum of 10,000 florins per turn. I presumed this was coming out of the king's purse? That is...until 5 turns ago. For some reason Norway has now decided that they cannot afford 10,000 florins and I received 2,000 florins which wasnt so healthy as my many armies and fleets have been sucking up that extra cash. My coffers dropped. Now LAST turn Norway only gve me 400 florins. I have checked and checked, nothing is any different now to when it was before but the cash-flow has dropped ALOT.

All I ask is why has this happened? I checked the income scroll and its not like Norway had rapidly diminishing funds. It was at a constant 10,000 until a few turns back.

I'm confused. Help me figure this out before I need to get a New vassal!!!

    Thanks,

    Tom

well, vassals will only be vassals so long as they, i suppose, want to. The reason they're dropping your income is to destroy you economically (for the upcoming takeback).
Best bet is to send your massives armies outwards, taking settlements again, and send one army to destroy Eikundarsungd. then, seeing as your Denmark, use your armies and skizzills to get Russia or Novgorod to be your Vassal. Hope that helped.

Maybe if the diplomatic and military AI worked, that would be the case, but they don't, so it isn't.

They can't choose the amount of money they give you can they? I thought it was an exact percent or something like that, when I had lithuania as vassal I recieved 90k the first turn, and then 11k the next and it sunk every turn.

Then just beat the crap out of everyone, that should solve the monetary problem.

I don't think they are in any position for a "take-back", let alone smart enough to make cuts to my faction. I can see their income and it has dropped dramatically. Something must have hit their economy to make this happen or something. I never really understood how they could get 10,000 florins from a single settlement but I wasn't going to complain! At this rate I would be better off just finishing them off.

But the AI isn't smart enough to get any 10 finance merchants or send them to Timbutu.

And for 10000, you'd need at least 2 merchant forts.

I never have the patience to deal with with Vassals... Seems like a waste of time. Diplomacy sucks, Just take over new cities with your florin munching armies to help your income.
You'd pillage too if all you had was lutefisk!

How many stacks of armies are the Norwegians fielding? Sometimes huge army upkeep can make an AI faction go down to the bankrupt level, as the AI has this tendency to build these huge stacks that they don't use to attack and just sit around instead.

Check their military strength in the faction rankings scroll, as some of their armies can be hiding in forests.
