they are predicting that the damage that hurrican Ike could cause massive damage to the refineries causing oil to rise upto $6 a gallon....were ruined!!! our economy can not work on $6 a gallon without governmental assistance.

LOL, oil just went below 100 dollars a barrel today, this will be a short term hype in gas prices.
And don't say release the reserve oil we have, that is for EXTREME emergencies...not just "oh i dont like how much I'm paying for this"
Forget the Cod this man needs a Sturgeon!
maybe you dont understand how bad $6 a gallons will hurt everyone. its not just people paying upwards of a thousand dollars a month in gas, but price hikes in everythings...runaway inflation! this country is so spread out that everything needs to be shipped major distances, and when truckers are already having a very tough time, well $6 a gallon would probably be their death.
remember this isnt europe, higher gas prices hurt us alot more across the board. especially for people who can no longer afford to go to work because of the gas price.
Yeah. tell me about hurricanes. Im gettin some of Ike as I speak.
This is a messege to Ike.
"Go home Ike, Tina ain't here."
Yes but I'm saying it's not going to go up to 6 dollars because we had to evac our offshore platforms for a hurricane to go through, this is a temporary spike in the price and we will see it go down substantially after the hurricane and the unknown factor is gone.

Here is a map of all of the offshore platforms http://www.cruisebruise.com/gulf_of_...l_platorms.jpg. Out of all of those, only 30 were damaged, and none destroyed from Hurricane Katrina. I agree with you that the destruction of refineries could be devastating, but offshore platforms are relatively safe. We could see a spike in the price of gas for a couple of months if the Houston refinery is destroyed, as it produces 120,000 of the 9,286,000 barrels we consume daily. Also the Houston refinery has already been shut down, so we are already paying the price for what they are not producing, if it is destroyed the price would not go up 2 entire dollars per gallon. That's just my opinion on the matter, I think you are correct in fearing a price spike from damaged refineries, but I think 6 dollars a gallon is a bit much with the price of oil failing despite uncertainty and the slowing of the global economy. I think the price spike wouldn't be that horrible and will last a relative small amount of time.

and plus Houston is the largest petroleum plant in the U.S. will have a significant impact.
Ehh. Might be $4.50 where I live.
Fewer factories and will not be damn hurricanes!!
