It´s the year 490 and divine Pharao Aryleia I rules the greatest part of the known world. But it has been a really hard piece of work
Would like to give you some impressions from my Kemet campaign:
It has been a very fine game experience and one of my most exciting TWR campaigns ever.
I appreciate so much to find a completely new historic situation here with many new factions including India in the East land the feeling that the world is young ;-).
Also I am so happy to find a reasonable population and city growth here. For me population growth is much too high in vanilla and most other mods. I don´t want so see huge cities everywhere after a few turns. Instead I prefer not only to conquer an empire but also to build it up myself. And in ROP I was able to do just that. When I had conquered about half of the map the first huge cities appeared… very good in my opinion. There also a reasonable measures against unrest which I also appreciate.
The game was very stable after I installed the hotfix. (before that it had been a pain with a lot of CTDs). Balancing is good in my opinion. Neither I found a faction which steamrolled everything nor overpowered units. However a few factions (Athen, Macedon e.g.) became extinguished very early. Also a great Persian Empire did not develop in my campaign.
The strongest factions - beside Kemet of course – were Ionia, Sparta and Maghada.
The only thing which I found a bit worse than in other mods is the 3D terrain… looks a bit “naked” or “artifical” in some regions. Also I still have some doubts that some factions (for example Kemet of course) have not only a hard start but are also designed to remain weak. So I don’t see the point e.g. that cavalry units of Kemet always have only half of soldiers than cavalry units of other factions. However regarding Kemet …after I had survived the first hard turns the game became increasingly easy because I had a strong economy, plenty of money and I always made all armour upgrades which the AI did not to this extent.
How I brought Kemet to wealth an glory (to give a few hints to those who also want to play this faction)?
Okay… at first I failed. The challenge here is an early 3 front war with Kush, Kyrene and Babylon. Not enough money and units ...too many foes…Babylon was able to take my mainland.
Next time I was better prepared. Playing on H/H I built an armourer in Alexandria first and upgraded all units - because a few turn later I would have financial problem.
Because I never attack a neutral or allied faction first I focused on the few rebel towns, but did not take Petra to have a few more turns peace with Babylon. Kyrene attacked me first and I hurried up to take their three cities. With this additional income I recruited a second stack to defend the mainland against Babylon who attacked very soon. And so did Kush where I sent another conquering army – and again used the additional income to improve the defense against Babylon. Also I took Salamis which is not only a fine source of income but also an important base.
Against Babylon with their dangerous horse archers I had an army of archers and heavy spearmen which a few cavalry units. Put the spearmen far in front of the enemy to block them and the archers did the rest. Of course to fight from the top of a hill is very helpful.
After I had conquered Kush I turned against Babylon who had their problems too at this time because Parthia took their capital. After I had taken Babylon´s capital I came into the next multifront war with Saba, Parthia, Maghada and Ionia. Parthia and Saba weren’t too strong but Ionia and Maghada offered a challenge because of Kemets inferior troops. Against Ionia I took an defensive stance at the frontier and avoided bigger field battles. Instead I came into their mainland from the sea (had also Creta and Rhodos as a base) and took their most important towns which weakened them considerably. Because of a - meanwhile - very sound economic situation I had no problem to send many big armies of well armoured units including mercenaries. Maghada meanwhile came with a lot of elephants, more elephants and even more elephants.
Lost several field battles, so I retreated in my towns and let them siege where they were at a big disadvantage. It is rather easy to make the elephants root with archer on the walls. Harmoneiza became the city of heroes because they the fought off of more than a dozen sieges. I defended against the Indians until I had smashed Ionia completely, then I walked to the east, while in the west Sparta and in the north Balkh let me know that they don´t like me too….
So far… Thanks again for this nice mod … great work!![]()
