Default Anyone else noticed this??? (public order problems)

I've been playing a Julii game that has been going well, but has now begun to fall apart. Several of my cities have suddenly started rioting, and one of them had a full rebellion and booted my forces out, so I tried to retake the city but my army's morale ended up breaking and I ended up having a narrow defeat.

This is not the first time this has happend in a game. But, it does make me wonder, are the cities hardcoded so that as the game goes along, they all begin to riot against your control?? I only had the Marius reforms a turn or two ago, and all hell seems to have broken loose in several of my towns since then.

I'm really quite annoyed that it has heppend. Seems to happen every frigging game, the deeper into it I get, the harder it becomes to keep the people in my cities happy!!!!

Had I not lost the battle against those rebels, I would have slaughterd the population as a means of trying to get some satisfaction. lol

A lot of it might happen because as you conquer more, you move further and further from your capital, and a lot of public disorder can be due to the capital being too far away. The only thing you can do about this is to constantly move your capital around to satisfy the needs of your various cities.

    Well that's unrealistic. I didn't even have a lot of cities conquered...only about 6 or 7. lol

Cities should only be revolting if the're far away from your homeland, or your city management isn't great. Build health + happiness bonsu buildings, increase garrisons, use governors well (train in academy cities) and the like. There is no code that says "now his cities will revolt". Order will naturally decrease as the population grows, your infrastructure and garrison have to keep up with that population growth.

If you cannot calm down a city with temples etc along with low taxes and a high garrison, simply leave the city to rebel (taxes to highest, all troops out), then re-conquer it and massactre the population. Especially some very fast growing cities often leave you no other choice.

It maybe harsh but sometimes the only satisfiying result against a revolting populace. Some cities tend to Riot for no appearent reason.

While playing with Greeks in Vanilla, Carthage never ceased Rioting. I had a full strength army and a very good commander in the garrison in order to keep them in line, and sometimes to fight an enemy nearby I was splitting my army for an attack, and city was revolting immediately. I had to slaughter the populace several times to cease the riots. Yet Carthagians never stopped ritoing until the end of the campaign. The streets of the damn city were painted with blood all over, I could even build a fountain of blood if it could possible.

It's one of the reasons why I hate Carthage and never played with that faction.

Yeah, I agree - vanilla Carthage is one of those pesky cities that ALWAYS revolts. In one campaign I had to slaughter it like 10 times...

Another really annoying city is Corduba in Barbarian Invasion - due to high fertility etc it grows WAY too quikly, causing riot after riot.

    Sisko,

Although there are plenty of other ways to screw up, as pertains to public order, your problem is almost certainly MOSTLY attributable to too many farm upgrades.

Sometimes, if you did not plan well from the beginning, the only solution is to exterminate after a rebellion. Sometimes it is not the only solution: Please see my post in this thread I wrote, over 2-1/2 years ago, on the subject.

    I hope this helps.

It is not a coincidence that cities with a grain resource rebel more than others. Carthage, Syracuse, Alexandria etc have a massive population growth, add in farming upgrades and health buildings and you can easily have 10% population growth. So many new people per turn cause squalor and this is what makes the cities revolt prone.
