Hi folks.
It has been some time since i joined these forums. More then once i've been tempted to bring something new to the comunity, but due to time constraints, i was unable to finish it.
This time it will be diferent.
Ever since i got into playing mods i've thought someone should do a reskin if not an overhaul of the Textures of buildings in RTW so as to brush away the outdated look they already have.
So a month ago i set to Correct this void. And i set out to Do one of the first released Cultural Building Texture Revamp.
This mod that im releasing next week will focus on what i already said. I will release it in phases, one version for each culture, one culture at a time, being the Roman Culture the second pack released, so as to allow people to enjoy results faster.
The First Pack will be devoted to the Barbarian Culture. It will Feature New Skins, with a resolution between 512*512 and 1024*1024, reskining almost 90% of the Culture's buildings. i plan on reaching 100% after i get a pass at all the cultures. But the first goal is to reskin the most common buildings in each culture ASAP.
Here are a few screens of what you'll have at your disposal in the IG's Barbarian Culture Pack V1:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The new Barbarian Wooden Walls
The new Fences inside Settlements
The new generic Textures for housing and other buildings
the new look of the Bardic Circle building
The new Thatched house
The New big Market building look
Another Housing Building
Out of this pack will be the Stone walls for barbarians for now, as most mods use the generic ones, and by doing a barbarian specific Stone Wall, would mess with many people's games.
Well the Barbarian Part is more or less ready for now, so i went on to the next Culture pack, so Today im releasing What i've done so far with the Barbarians.
2- Unpack your .pack files present in the Data/packs folder.
Like its indicated in the Tutorial in Xpak Extrator
3- When you come to the Renaming of the old Pack files, DO NOT rename all the old packs. Just Rename the Model_buildings.pack file, its all you need, keep the others pack files as they were.
3- In the Pack Folder should now be a new Data Folder. Inside its contained a series of new Folders. Among them there is one Called Model_buildings Copy this new Model_buildings Folder from the new data folder created by the unpacking of the Packs, and Paste the New Model_buildings Folder into your RomeTotalwar/data/ folder.
4- The Pc will tell you that you already have another file with the same name, if you want to overwrite it/add the new files. Click Yes. Wait for it to end.
5- Now open my mod, you'll see that inside the main Folder you have a folder called Data.
6- So Back away from the main directory of your RTW, and up one level so you can see the Root RTW.
7- Copy the Data file contained in my mod's Rar into the root RTW folder.
8- Youll be asked that the folder already exists blah blah. So just press yes.
9 - And Thats it!
10 - Start the game and enjoy
I know the textures arent crispy Latests Generation, but for it to remain with a decent quality, and not compromise the Perfomance of everyone, i decided to keep some of them simpler, and give a litle bit eye candy on the others.
That doesnt mean it wont change in later versions.
You can Use this mod pretty much the way you feel like it, however if you want to include it in your mod, or redistribute it, please do ask for Permition.
Permition will be granted most of the times, but i like to know where my work is being used. Also Credit must be given to the dude who spent time to make this mod, which would be me=)))
Feel Free to post Sugestions, Constructive criticism only thank you!

Also if you are having trouble getting this to work, ask for help. i'll give help as soon as i can. I've tryed this mod out in several settlements, it seemed bug free, but if by any chance you find any texture glitchy or building inconsistency please report it to me, and it will be taken care of in the limits of the engine.

The scoop of my Project is only about architecture. So that leaves soldiers out.
This mod will not be be limited to RTW vanilla. It will replace the textures used by the RTW engine, so if you have this on your data folder, you'll be able to use your mods and still see the new textures.

Cant make them all 1024*1024, as not even half the people still playing RTW have pc's to work with all textures on 1024+units on the field. I cant think only for me or you.
As for BI...well things take time. Firts RTW, then we'll see. Im doing everything alone after all
I agree with Mithril... Having two versions one at very high res like 1024x1024 and another at lower res would help all people around.
BTW I think that nowdays comps can handle RTW are high specs better than when the game was firsly released...
I think the remaking of the Roman faction buidings is one of the best ideas. Mods lack this as they concentrate more on troops and modifications of the main game while this aspect if often left out...
The resolution doesnt matter for the Engine... If it has the same name, and the same pixel Ratio it will read the texture no problem, without glitches... you can simply edit the file to be bigger.
i think i can make a 2k*2k res. its theorically possible, however, the size of that texture might become too big for RTW to read without causing CTD's
Thx but I ment how to make better skins by raising the res. I mean how to make a 256x256 to a ,for example, 1024x1024...
For sure a 1024x1024 has a better visual then a 256x256...
it also depends, for example higher res textures are better when you want to texture buildings that will stretch the texture, as for example the roofs, and other big buildings. Also Higher resolutions are nice when you got high resulotion starting material. That isnt always the case. Its a bit complex.
Also the final Quality often doesnt have to do completely with the resolution. I got textures in 512*512 looking better then others in 1024*1024. Its relative. It depends on what you used to start creating the texture.
