CTD when starting an Imperial Campaign

Rome Total War Gold edition v1.5 crashes to desktop when starting an imperial campaign. It crashes when the red load bar approaches full. I have not been able to play an imperial campaign since I purchased the CD.

I can:

* Play historic battles
* Play quick battles (did CTD once after saving a ‘reply’)
* Play Barbarian Invasion, no CTD’s yet


I also have Medieval II v1.0, no CTD’s yet after many campaigns.

I have tried:

* Updating drivers
* Using -show_err switch (no error messages display/pop up after/during CTD)
o "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err
* Uninstalling, then deleting remaing folders, then running a Registry Cleaner, then re-installing RTW
* Searching for an error log within RTW directories. No error logs found. No system.log found either.
* Looking in Microsoft Event Viewer for errors.



My system:

* Dell Inspiron 531s
* AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Pro 4400+
* 2300 MHz, 2048 MB
* MS Windows XP Pro, SP3
* Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (256 MB) 8.8 Cat driver.
* DirectX 9.0c


Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations, guides, faq's that can solve this CTD? Thanks in advance.

Have you modded your campaign?
And do you have RTW and M2 installed at the same time? That might be hogging up virtual memory.:hmmm:

re MTW i dont know .... it works, no CTD yet. RTW gold does, i dont understand why.

Ive read alot of threads, ive tried alot of trys.

I don't understand why i can't get a result from the switch 'show-err'.

I'll try installing it on another PC.

Graphic errors will not show up in -show_err. If it's a building in the wrong order or wrong faction, ti will catch that but if a sprite is out of place, it won't catch it.

A couple of things to try;

1) delete map.rwm and launch game (if you don't want to delete just rename them as the file can be created each time you load a game).

2) turn down the graphic settings on the campaign map - or set it to the same resolution to the battlemap....

Are you using Vista?
