Default how to get ppl to agree to peace?

so i've had a hard time getting diploymacy to work. i wanted to get peace with teutonic order, i'm danish. so i send a diplomat with a ranking of 5 to talk. i'm #1 military wise and had also already won a minor victory. we were at war for 100 turns and i had defeated them time and time again. i offer 25k in gold and my map for a cease fire. it said it was a balanced proposal. they said no.

exactly what do i have to do for peace?

It depends on your level of trustworthyness and your relationship to the other faction.

It's easier to get agreement if trusted, obviously. If you have bad relations, i.e. the other side hates, they will usually decline most offers, or they have to be very favorable. Try giving some money as a present first, this may change their attitude, then try a favorable proposal. Balanced proposals only work, if you reputation and relation are balanced as well.

If rep/relation is bad, the proposal must be good. Abysmal relations make any diplomacy almost impossible, you have to give presents first and hope they are accepted. If not, you'll have to wait some turns and stay defensive.

I usually smash their noses a few times in battles and they come asking me for peace.

However, as mentioned above, reputation as well as factional standing has a lot to do with how you go in diplomacy.

yeah i'm only playing on normal campaign difficulty with very hard battles, so i can just conquer them with ease. but it'd be nice if the diplomacy were a little bit more reasonable in this game. i mean if they went through all that effort to put it in the game. i remember in civ3, if i was whopping a person, i could just ask for peace and they'd say yes.

    its my only gripe.

Civ? I thought this was M2TW?

But I play Civ and in there, it is extremely easy to build an army, and kill a neighbor.

If you want a good Rep you need to do this:

    1- Never betray your allies
2- Never Sack or exterminate citie that you capture
3- Help your allies against common foes
4- Don't be too agressive with neutral factions

I always have reliable or very reliable Rep this usually helps when you negotiate with a faction allied or foe

Crush them. They will be amenable to peace about the time that you decide that it is not worth it to leave them that one last village...

What? The AI never agrees to "Accept unless we will attack" unless they offer "please do no attack"

I'm aware of that. The point is, you give them your demand(s) and then they refuse. Then, that is enough provocation so as to not tarnish your reputation. They're not supposed to accept, it's just so that your reputation isn't ruined by a string of unprovoked wars.

well i think u should look at it like they are just proud. Typical medieval ppl totally overestimate their strength cause they think god is on their side and stuff. U will never intimidate them into peace.for me, once war starts with a faction, i really dont even try to seek peace...but if they are in a situation where they cannot possibly profit with a war with you, they will seek peace themselves. for example, give all the lands u have bordering them to another faction....then they will seek peace quickly. Giving reigons actually can make sone very interesting diplomatic possibilities. Instead of giving them money, take some region that woudl be reaosnably useful for them and might make them want to war with one of your enemies. then give it to them as a gift, then offer peace. this will work better.

You could take many of their regions and then offer them back demanding they become a protectorate(I do that when I do not want to overstrech my borders)

that's another way to do so but don't give them to much because if they/you or your actions brake your vassalship with them, you'll be in trouble

Great way to get reputation up, or so I've found.

1.You need a faction who's at war with someone else, and it looks like they are actually attacking them or able to attack them.

2.Ask them to attack that faction, offer a large sum and see what the offer value is.

3.If it's balanced or better, negotiate with them or ask them what they want. You could offer to attack them aswell if you're also at war with them. Just get the deal if you can.

4.They have 15 turns to make an attack on the other faction. If they do, and they should, you get a rep bonus. I assume it should work the otherway around, and is a bug. I think this works against Rebels, but can't remember.

I've only tried this on medium difficulty, so that might alter the ease of it a lot. But I've found you can usually spend about 3-4000 on average for them to accept.
