    Default Janissary Heavy Inf. 12 AT and 10 DEF??

    Ok why? I mean this unit costs 840 florins one of the most expensive units of the game and it has 12 attack and 10 defence. Ok it has an armour piercing attack and good morale but isn't that still weak for that cost? Am I missing something or this unit is a total ripp of?

    long range attack. statistics dont meant anything, if a unit either can attack from a large distance or has a crappy animation speed.

    The strength of a unit is not solely determined by its stats but also by its animation. Before patch 1.2 they were the strongest mêlée unit in the game. Now they are still very strong but units with shields have a better chance against them. They are vulnerable to missile fire but once engaged in mêlée they are very strong.
    Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

    Armour piercing is worth a lot. Pair them against any standard Knight and they'll rip them to shreds with that alone.

    Well thanks. Still looking at those stats are irritating but I tried them and they atually rip knights t o shreds

    dude these guys are insane against other infantry. Dismounted english knights and the like have way better stats but get owned by these chaps. don't they have 2 hit points or is that just in clouds across europe mod? Don't look at stats too much if they are exspensive then there is always a good reason as to why.

    Jannissary Infantry and Archers also are surely the strongest in the game IMO

    They are one of those units that can UNLEASH HELL on any other set against them, be they super heavy cavalry or the heaviest foot you can find.

    They are, however, not that well armored. And the lack of shield is particularly disadvantageous when facing missile fire and enemies armed with shields.

    This also means that they are very vulnerable to a cavalry charge - or any charge in general. Do not face a charge from anything with these guys, or else you'll loose half your men in 6 seconds (though they're tough enough to win in the ensuing melee with just half strength). Let another unit take the hit and send these guys in to replace the front or circle around the flank (but they're vulnerable like that).

    It's either that or I make a personal sticky thread where I sing the praises of JHI and how to use them.

    Speaking of which, it might not be a bad idea to make a general sticky on the uses of specific units/unit types.

    Well JHI are lethal assaulting cities as well in open field, just take some cheap and disposable Saracen militia with them to absorb arrows and cavalry charges. They don't have a strong defense they only have access to heavy mail if i remember correctly but they have a lot of stamina they can fight forever before they get tired.

    When assaulting walls, make a big hole on the wall use your Saracen militia to kill they missile on the walls, and then send your JHI and enjoy the carnage. They will eat any infantry or cavalry in the streets, if you don't want the JHI to eat them raw just bring some naffatum and they will make a nice BBQ .
