    Default Infantry-Only Formations

    Hi!

I'm working on a BI-1.6-based mod which doesn't use any cavalry whatsoever (no horses in the world, period). The only things close to cavalry are the units of an orc-like culture, whose skeletons are scaled to 1.3 and are fs_fast_#, and a giant unit which uses the elephant-with-invisible-rider-trick (with a fs_2handed skeleton scaled to 2.0) - same culture.
Are there any good formations out there which I could use as a basis for my own, that don't screw up when they don't have any cavalry?
Or does anyone have tips on tactics the AI can use without cav?
Right now skirmishers are some kind of an uber weapon (unless you counter them with lots of archers), and long-range fast-moving archers are practically invulnerable unless you use artillery (but jav-cav and horse archers had the same issue in vanilla - scythia, parthia and numidia rocks).
And right now the AI uses archers just plain retarded. They tend to march almost to melee range while being turned into pincushions by my own archers, then switch to loose formation and usually rout before firing a single shot becourse most of them are dead by then.
(I didn't change anything with the formations, so I suspect the vanilla AI being this stupid)

I don't think there's a formation specific to armies without cavalry and adjusted to what you want, so you'll have to experiment on your own. Don't expect wonders though, the AI isn't very clever or easy to manipulate.
